Eclectic and intensive, 20 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Unza Unza Time (Audio CD)
Although gypsi music provides the basis for this music, other influences are more than apparent. Some other folk-music (Eastern Europe, even Russia), jazz, but even some punk and hip-hop (one track reminds of Beastie Boys). The tempo is pretty fast most of the time that makes the record an intensive listen, the eclectisism also finds expression in the fact that the songs are in English, German, and also some East-European languages. The record is also somewhat danceable, if you like jazz or folk for that. But it is undobtedly also interesting listen.

Emir Kusturica and his weird (and beautiful) movies. He plays guitar. Dr. Nele - at the vocals - is the last man standing from his time: where are The Smiths, The Cure and Echo? Dr. Nele is alive! Maybe you don't know, but this man was the leader of the most brilliant band of Yugoslavia (the 80's, do you remember?). I don't want to talk about this time... but his band was Zabranjeno Pusenje. If you really like 80's rock you won't regret!!!! I could tell you they were punks, but incredibly sophisticated... Well, Emir and No Smoking Orchestra are the future of great music... A lot of great musicians working togheter... Like Louis Armstrong and his All-Stars in the 50's. Listen! If you want rock, if you want jazz, if you want gipsy music! Or even if you don't want it! Listen! You may discord, but it's the most incredible band of our time! I want my soul burning in hell if i'm wrong!!!!! Wake up! Wake up crowd... wake up, from your boring dream! Listen to "Devil in the Business Class".

This music has everything. It can't be described by style. It is dynamic, you have to keep moving! It makes you smile, it makes you stand up and do something active! This music cannot be described, because I do not believe american listeners ever heard this kind of music. BUY IT if you love music with energy, treat yourself to something new. This music is so creative, like I said it stands on its own--genius!
