delighful divulgation 29 April 2012
By RAMON
Format:Paperback
This book is a very good divulgative effort in the subject of mummies. More often than not, we are intoxicated with terror films that show a mummy as some magical, misterious object. Actually, mummies are much more than that: they reflect the funerary uses of a highly sophisticated society. Their relationship with death was a reflection of their world views, thier value sytem, their spiritual longings.
Thus, the authors not only inform us of the material process of the unwrapping, but the practical and ritual process of embalming. The technology is already dated (nothing ages faster than machines!), but then you get a precious insight on the archeological work, all the pathological research, the very curious findings (teeth, parasites, clothes, diseases...)
Truly informative and truly well written.

an informative book on a fascinating subject 25 Jan 2001
By Francesca Jourdan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The author describes the unwrapping and examination of the Egyptian priest Horemkenesi's mummy, which dates back to the 11th century BC. Based on his research, the author has been able to picture the death and mummification of the Ancient Egyptians. Divided in two sections, the first one takes the priest's life in the Twenty-First Dynasty into account, and the second one focuses on his mummy. Illustrated in color as well as in black and white, this recommended book will be most enjoyed by the mummy enthusiast.
