Product Description

Product Description

In May 2012 Anathema released 'Weather Systems', the most successful album of the band's two decade plus career. Scoring high in end of year polls around the world, the album cemented Anathema's reputation as one of the most interesting bands of recent times. Following the release of the album, the band embarked on a lengthy world tour. The European part of the tour opened with a special one-off gig at the ancient Roman theatre of Philippopolis where the band were joined by the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra. 'Untouchable' captures the magic of this unique evening. Available on double heavyweight vinyl packaged in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves.

OK, I have Universal.

So I have a concert DVD of the gig and a CD.

Wonderful though they are, what I also have is a decent analogue hi-fi solution - that is the old-fashioned vinyl record player. Why? Because despite all the wonderful technology behind CD's and computer-stored music, that 12' round bit of plastic will knock the socks off any CD recording, even if you get it from the likes of 'audiofidelity'. It's like motorbikes; you can have a super gee-whizz road car, but they'll always be a motorbike that can accelerate quicker. Whatever the CD player, they'll always be a turntable and vinyl recording that beats it.

Anathema must really like their music, just like their fans, because they thoughtfully put the Plovdiv gig on vinyl and released it before Universal.

That confidence in their own music is key to Anathema's strength - Daniel knows he is a fantastic songwriter - he doesn't need a rock stars ego, he knows darn well his music touches folk at a level no other writer can reach, and having found that button he just keeps his finger pressed down hard on it. Vincent knows he really is the best male vocal in the business, and he will push that voice on stage well beyond what most people would only dare in rehearsal. Lee in the meantime has perhaps changed the most in recent years - stepping into the limelight when before she was just someone who popped on-stage every now-and-then. John Douglas in the meantime will give Gavin Harrison a scare.

So you have a band that is dripping in self-belief; the knowledge that they are absolutely the best band in the world right now, and have been for a few years. There really is no-one who can even get near them. And that self-belief shines throughout Untouchable (and Universal).
