Popartglory is Jasmine Minks' first release on Poptones. In the early to mid 80s, Scotland's Jasmine Minks embodied the spirit of Alan McGee's Creation Records. They were proud, Mod, fiercely anti-Capitalist, full of taut guitar riffs and passionate slogans--one of which even went on to inspire the name of Manic Street Preachers--and, oddly, underachievers. Come 2001, and McGee has a new label. Who better to bring onboard than the Jasmine Minks with a new, radicalised sound? Now, it's not just the sharp lines of Mod the Minks look to, but the funk of Sly, the amphetamine-laden grooves of Northern Soul, the call-to-arms fury of early Joe Strummer. The result is a slightly schizophrenic, slightly outdated dance/rock crossover record that struggles to find its real voice. There are enough moments of glory here to justify the Minks' continued existence, though. "Soul Children" is an almost melancholy insurrectionist blast of power; "Daddy Dog" proves the Minks have lost none of their political invective; "2001 A Minks Oddity" even dabbles in ambient waters. --Everett True

I purchased a copy of the first Jasmine Minks album for over ten years.
The title track popartglory propels you headlong into an album full of fantastic songs held together by polemic lyrics, which employ tons of metaphors. These minks who offer observations about their WALL (Work, Art, Life and Love) might come to be dismissed by the lazier kind of critic out there as yet another installment in the obvious series of Alan McGee's offerings of attitude bands with accents. But such commentators would be so very wrong!
If you look at the Jasmine Minks you can sense a certain attitude. Not one that is bad but rather one that is extremely healthy in this current climate of musical indifference. Via popartglory the jasmine minks give out something fresh and refuse point blank to accept the stale and tired invective offered by current "happening" sounds.
To the discerning ear of those who know the difference, this creativity has undoubtedly been shaped by their always-honest reaction to their musical upbringing in an industry where nepotism is the manner by which so many thrive.
Popartglory is a subtle and complex offering. It addresses a wide set of agendas and draws upon a diverse range of influences. 'Daddy Dog' featuring Scottish MSP Tommy Sheridan is a remarkably assured and accomplished statement about the state of our world as we know it today.
Full of invigorating idealism ably complimented by vibrant rhythm, wild guitar and mental keyboards this album is a must for any music collection with a conscience.
Popartglory is heaven and hell rolled into one.
The closing trilogy of 'Angel', '2001' and 'Redsky' is as fine an album closing holy trinity as you'll ever hear, and as 'Redsky' dissolves with the mantra of 'nothing is lost, nothing is here, nothing is sacred, nothing is real' you know that it's wrong, because this sound is as real as you'll ever need, and that maybe, just maybe, those Minks are sacred after all
Try as I might I just can't begin to imagine life without those moments. If you buy one album, this year, buy popartglory.

an ecelectic collection of songs and words thats in your face and asking you to make your mind up ..are you a mink .. or not ?!!?
the lyrics have conviction, the music has passion and Jim Shepherd's vocals plead with you to join them on this journey of emotions
from the subtle beauty of '2001 a mink odyssey' to the energy of the eponymous 'popartglory' to the sheer conviction of 'daddy dog' ... its got it all
this album deserves all the glory we can give it

The new lp POPARTGLORY is amazing!!!! I love it!!! Very rich in ideas and music.. and very wild and loose but at the same time tight..(if you can understand that!)... I love how the typical pop song Structure is changed on many tracks. My favz are: "Popartglory", "Angel"
"Midnight & I", "Daddy Dog", "Ken's Korubo",
"Keeping Ahead Of You", "Redsky".. I especially love the little bridge in the title track where it goes into that house beat with the piano... dope!! Anyone who loves the CREATION bands, will love this open-minded life-loving and intelligent music! MAKE A GENIUS MOVE!!
