Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Twenty-three-year-old soulstress Terri Walker may be London born and Regensburg, Germany raised, but her debut album, Untitled, leaves little doubt that she's the natural successor to US nu-soul divas Jill Scott and Angie Stone. Far removed from the clever beats and big-name producers that mark most fashion-conscious hopefuls, her brand of R&B luxuriates in honey-sweet harmonies and deep smouldering grooves. To handclaps and a human beat box, "Love Fool" issues a sunny sway and asserts that she's not short of all-woman attitude, a fact confirmed by the similarly sassy dismissal of past boyfriends, "Drawing Board". Meanwhile, the vintage soul struts of "What Will I Do" and "Love You for Life" brim with endearing vulnerability. But it's when she turns on her coy charm and cuts her rootsy hip-hop with slinky jazz that Untitled earns its place next to the debuts from Philadelphia's current heroines. All woozy keyboards, scatting melodies and drunkenly slurring horns, "Guess You Didn't Love Me" and "Dirty Weekend"'s hot, close smooches are near to the dictionary definition of sultry as anyone's likely to get. --Dan Gennoe

BBC Review

Def Soul UK's newest diva Terri Walker is being hailed as this year's biggest female newcomer and the brightest star on the labels roster. With such bold statements being made my desire to hear this lady in action grew. It's not just hype; all I can do is heap further praise on the talented Ms Walker and Untitled. Her debut is undoubtedly one of the best British R&B albums produced to date.

Terri is an old soul in a young body. Her voice has the depth of the old skool diva, (Patti Labelleand the Aretha Franklin) but with the freshness of nu-soul stars like Erykah Baduand Floetry.

Unlike many urban albums, Untitled is not jam packed with collaborations but the most notable coupling is "Guess You Didn't Love Me", featuring Mos Def. This isn't bubble gum rap. Terri is a serious gal and this is serious stuff; not many UK artists can boast a rapper of this calibre on a debut album.

It's hard to pick out outstanding tracks as there are no fillers on Untitled. "Drawing Board", (which is already hot on the UK R&B scene) oozes attitude and has a simple message - c'est la vie. "What will I Do" is a beautiful, touching love song with the very strong backing vocals of Sammy Jay who also produced on this track.

"Deutschland" is an original and catchy interlude sung entirely in German, Terri has not forgotten her roots, much of her earlier years were spent growing up in Germany. "Dirty Weekend" featuring the Wise Children is a gentle reminder that it is not all about love and roses. Ms Walker shows her strength here as an independent modern woman.

Untitled takes you on an uplifting journey through life, love, friendship and regret, a journey you will be sad to end but not sorry you started. Every track slots in smoothly one after another, the order of the songs a carefully thoughtout progression.

Terri has the talent to really make an impact on the urban scene, her vocals are paramount on every song and the music frames her voice perfectly. She has captured the heart of classic soul and blended it with a modern R&B flava. The result is original and uniquely her own. In Ms Walker we have an artist who can bravely take on the US diva and who may even come out unscathed on the other side.

Terri Walker and Untiltled can't be pigeon holed. This is not just urban, this is not just R&B, this is music for the soul. --Denise Boyd

Her album was one recommended to me due to past buys. After looking at the reviews she had received, I decided to give it a try. A bit risky perhaps, seeing as I had not heard any of the songs. But it has really surprised me.

Terri Walker is a fantastic new artist. She has a great voice and she is not afraid to try different things, as this album shows. She has deinitely produced a top quailty soul album. There really isn't a song which I do not like. I don't want to go on about why I like each and every one, so all I will say is that the songs which stand out particularly are "Guess you didn't love me", "Ching Ching" and "Love you for life".

Up until now, my favourite British female artist was Beverley Knight, but I think that Terri Walker has shown that she is in Knight's league too.
If you like music by Knight, India Arie, Angie Stone or Ashanti, give Terri Walker a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

First things first, Terri Walker is not your average run-of-the mill R&B singer i.e Craig David - the girl is quite literally in a leauge of her own!! Terri's stunning vocal talent posesses a raw urban edge and classic jazzy twang found only in very few R&B singers these days - (Beverley Knight her only real 'Brit' competitor)!

The album features classics such as 'Guess You Didn't Love Me' ft. Mos Def as well as some real soulful numbers such as '4 Feet Under' and 'It's All Good'. The CD rarely dissapoints as it's neo-soul/jazz feel wafts sucessfully through most tracks. She even does an interlude called 'Deustchland' in German and her voice still sounds remarkable.

My only real complaint is that she could have sung maybe one or two more chilled-out, mellow tracks like 'Da Business' which would have given the album a slightly better balance and made the experience more enriched. Nevertheless this is still a triumphant and very promising debut from one of Britain's finest up-and-coming soul stars!! Pity about these Craig David's, Blue's and Atomic Kittens stealing all the limelight...half of them can't sing!

Having loved Terri's first two singles, 'Drawing Board' and 'Guess you didn't love me,' I decided to give her 'Untitled' album a try. I did not expect this album to replace my favourite Maxwell cd, but it has!

On first listening to this album, I was immeditaely taken back by how strong her voice is. 'Love Fool,' the first song on the cd, is my favorite as its funky, fresh and soulful. Other stand out tracks include 'It's All Good,' 'Dirty Weekend,' and 'Fake.'
The song 'Deutschland' is in German as she lived there for a few years and this makes the song very original.

Terri Walker, who I would describe as a British Mary J Blige, with a good, powerful ranged soul voice, and funky musical arrangements, should indeed go all the way to becoming a hugely successful artist. Buy this album if you're into Beverly Knight, Musiq, D'angelo and Jill Scott. Support this great FEMALE BRITISH r'n'b artist and ensure she is a success!
