High fashion, high art, high expectations - this is Pretty Woman for the twenty-first century

Money makes the world go round - that's what twenty-something Grace Reeves is learning. Stuck in a grind where everyone's ahead apart from her, she's partied out, disillusioned, and massively in debt. If she's dumped by another rock-band wannabe, squashed by anyone else at her cut-throat fashion job, or chased by any more bailiffs, Grace suspects she'll fall apart...

So when older, sexy and above all, wealthy art-dealer Vaughn appears, she's intrigued against her will. Could she handle being a sugar daddy's arm candy?

Soon Grace is thrown into a world of money and privilege, at Vaughn's beck and call in return for thousands of pounds in luxurious gifts, priceless clothes - and cash. She's out of her depth. Where's the line between acting the trophy girlfriend, and selling yourself for money? And, more importantly: whatever happened to love?

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy and fun with just enough darkness 16 Aug 2010
By Rowan
Format:Paperback
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Grace is an interesting character: at twenty-three, she is of course an adult and yet just a hint of teenage girl lies around her life and her attitude and this combination is a perfect touch. We sympathise with Grace, when she's bullied relentlessly at work (though the reader may find themselves questioning just why Grace tolerates it!) and her life outside of work - debt ridden, drunk and unhappy - is one that's horribly uneasy to understand and identify with. Objectively, the reader can see that the very things Grace does to escape her unhappiness by getting drunk and shopping, are the very things that lead to the unhappiness in the first place.

Grace's liasion with Vaughn is one that may seem morally questionable to some - to the reader, to Grace's best friend and to Grace herself, at first - but Manning nicely shows the sign of real affection between the two of them. It's clear to see both are 'damaged' individuals but it's well written and subtle and avoids the dreaded cliches.

The constant fashion references get a bit wearing if like me your idea of a designer label is Rocha John Rocha at Debenhams but I enjoyed reading about Grace's clothes and shoes!

One question I'd appreciate somebody trying to answer: Why is the book called 'Unsticky'? I've thought about it considerably but I just can't work it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books i've ever read. 29 Oct 2009
Format:Hardcover
As someone very interested in two things that this novel promised me, fashion and romance, i was not dissappointed. I fell in love with Grace and also with Vaughn. Sarra Manning creates a depth to both characters that makes it impossible to not enjoy. I first only rented this book from my library to read on holiday. I was going camping in France and i went into my tent, settled down on my blow up camp bed and began reading chapter two- I couldnt put it down. I ended up finally falling asleep at 5.30! I couldnt put it down. I re-read it twice afterwards and constantly read my favourite scenes over and over. I returned it to the library to avoid being fined, however, i got halfway down the road, and turned around and took it out of the library again. A month and a half later i recieved a letter from the library indicating large fines on Unsticky. I returned it and, a week later realised i wanted to read it again! It is on loan from the library and has been ever since. I borrowed money from a friend just so i could buy it. I think i'm turning into Grace because i'm addicted to her story. This is a fantastic book that i cant help but think about all the time! Definately 5 stars. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Your Sticky Mitts on 'Unsticky' 31 May 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a bit of a fashion addict, I approached 'Unsticky' with the same enthusiasm I muster for fashion based novels: I was prepared to be mildy amused. By the end of this book I was so much more. I was impressed that such a long book kept up such an entertaining pace and I fell in love with the heroine, Grace, and not so quite in love with the man she crosses more than paths with, Vaughn. The fashion detail was authentic without being overpowering, and any woman who has gone through her 20's making a hash of everything will find some of her life reflected in Grace's. I could not recommend this book highly enough, and I await Sarra Manning's next book with great anticipation.

Weirdly similar to Fifty Shades of Grey but much better written. Which came first I wonder? First half took a while to get into, but once hooked hard to put down.
