Product Description

Just before midnight on April 14, 1912, the ocean liner Titanic struck an iceberg. Less than three hours later, she lay at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, having taken with her more than 1,500 of the roughly 2,200 people on board. Even now, a century later, no other ship in history has attracted so much attention, stirred up such powerful emotion, or accumulated as many legends.

""Unsinkable"" provides a fresh look at the "Titanic"'s incredible story. Following the great ship from her conception to her fateful collision to the ambitious attempts to salvage her right up to the present day, Daniel Allen Butler draws on thirty years of research to explore the tragedy and its aftermath in remarkable depth and detail. The result is a must-read for anyone interested in the "Titanic." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Just the type book I like to read. Starts at the beginning and follows the details to the end. No jumping around. All facts documented with footnotes. Very emotional, you can get right into the lives of the principals.

It's okay. 9 Oct 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I placed this book in the "just okay" category of my other Titanic books just for the simple fact that I noticed numerous typo's, which made it a little hard to read at times. The facts are pretty good, but Wade's "Titanic: End of a Dream" is much better. I also noticed that the author of this book says that Titanic sent out the FIRST SOS signal ever, which isn't true. She was one of the first, but not the first. Which makes me think that maybe some of his other facts may not be so concrete. I would recommend it to someone who's looking for another book about the Titanic, but it wouldn't be the first one I'd recommend.

Disappointing 28 Sep 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
No new facts emerge, this is a dramatised version of the two Public Enquiries, which are far from infallible. Mr Butler has accepted their findings word for word and has made no effort to uncover the real truth. Good read, despite errors, but please read the masterful Titanic, end of a dream before this one for an authentic whiff of the year 1912. Otherwise, a useful general overview of the disaster, but no classic.

Read "A Night to Remember" instead
Mr. Butler appears to have taken a good deal from Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember." One would expect much more from someone claiming to have researched an issue for... Read more

Stale Titanic Book
Butler has many mistakes that need to be corrected in this book. I counted 40 major needless errors. When writing a book on a subject like this is a difficult task. Read more

Poorly written Titanic book
Being very blunt, I can say with all honestly that Mr. Butler copied A Night to Remember almost word for word. He also never corrected any of Lord's mistakes. Read more

Not perfect; but not bad
Overall it's an interesting and thorough comprehensive rehashing of the Titanic sinking. I think he did go overboard in several of his assumptions. e.g. Read more

Stale rehash of older, better books
"Unsinkable" is a tremendous disappointment. It presents very little new information, and practically copies the whole of A Night to Remember into its pages. Read more
