Book Description

The Unshorn Thread, part one of the Tales Misforgotten trilogy, is a tale of Merlin and his charge Arthur, the boy who would be king. Though their tale may seem familiar, The Unshorn Thread guides us quickly down unmarked paths and into new surroundings. This is a world in which gods and mortals meet. It is a place in which Faerie Stories and Tall Tales are true. It is a place where every god ever
prayed to spoke back, and every demon ever feared stalked through the darkness, creeping ever closer to their unwitting victims. Even Arthur, as he drifts off to sleep, can feel the swirling, black eyes of something sinister looking back at him from the darkness of his bedchamber.

Through the lens of Merlin and Arthur, we are told stories which span millennia — from Ancient Greece to the Steampunk future of American Reconstruction in the 1870s. Though separated by vast amounts of time, these tales nonetheless feel connected, as if they are trying to speak to one another across the years. Merlin and Arthur begin to listen to these hints and whispers, even going so far as to act upon the knowledge they have gleaned. But will this discovered knowledge help them as they live out their own tale, or will it bring even the legend of King Arthur crashing down?

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great read for steampunk fans! 10 Jan. 2013

Format:Paperback
If you love fantasy books, if you love myths and tall tales, and if you are into steampunk, then you will love this book. My entire family has read it on my recommendation, and we're all chomping at the bit for the next installment. I think my favorite part about it is that the story keeps me on my toes; I can never tell where (or when) or protagonists will go next. And it's not run-of-the-mill steampunk, either. Druce-McFadden has taken the basic rules of the genre and run with them, which is so refreshing! Anyway, read it! It's great!

By S M McFadden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
As the editor of "The Unshorn Thread" I have read the novel several times, and I must say it is not only a great book, but one of the best novels I've ever read. I believe the entire Tales Misforgotten Series (when completed) will become a classic like "The Lord of the Rings." Scenes in this novel are so clearly and beautifully described that I can see every reed, every causeway, every field, every forest, every pot in the kitchen as if I am there. The characters are real to me, and I am carried along in their world--be it the world of young King Arthur or of America in the late 1800's--and care deeply about what happens to them. Maggie, the kitchen maid, is a particular favorite of mine, as is Wart; and Colin's depiction of Merlin brings him to life in a new and captivating way. This is not a time-travel novel, yet it brings together four plot lines: Arthurian legend, Greek mythology, the post-Civil-War Reconstruction era, and American tall tales. If you are a fan of fantasy, steampunk, or just excellent writing, buy this book and share it with people you love. Buy it at Peregrine Book Company (where there are still some signed copies!) in Prescott, Arizona, or on Amazon.com.

An intriguing story that makes the reader wonder how the characters will resolve the various fascinating plot lines, a book not to be missed as it draws on familiar elements, and then expands them in ways not expected. Looking forward to more from this series.
