This series is growing on me. Connor's lead Karen Sharpe is one of the more interesting coppers I have seen in a long time. Driven by her own sense of morality and justice, often to the detriment of those around her, she is tough, vicious and downright dangerous.
Karen is now a detective sergeant investigating a criminal family, headed by a terrifying matriarch. One of her team, DC Roth, is attracted to his prickly and mercurial superior, unaware that Karen seems to chew men up and spit them out. And when her methods become unsound, he has a tough choice to make.
John Connor has a knack of creating the most monstrous, yet believable villains, and as his biog suggests - many years as a criminal barrister - this knowledge of both sides of the law, and the banality of evil, serves him well.
A real star and I cannot recommend this writer highly enough. Check out the series.
