I sat down at 9pm on Friday night to read this book, and couldn't stop. First it was 'oh, I'll stop at midnight', then 'I'll quit at 1am', then, 'Sure I'll just keep going 'til 2.' By 3 I'd completely given in & finally finished the book shortly after 5am!
All in all a good read. One mildly irritating quirk; because the is is a book set in Scotland but written by an American
some Americanisms such as 'side walk' 'soda' 'block' and 'graduate school' occur. Such words and phrases are not used in the UK & spoiled the narrative slightly. But only slightly! Also there isn't a 'St. Annes' university in the UK, nor a college (to my knowledge).
I liked some aspects of the verbal tour round St Andrews, particularly the glancing reference to one of my favourite old haunts - Quarto Bookshop.
