As an experienced Florida traveler (5 visits) but who hasn't been to the theme parks for some 6 years, I got this book to get up to speed on changes. In addition we are going with a 4 year old this time which is a first for us.

This book is excellent, full of extremely helpful tips and shortcuts, not to mention some good ideas for saving money which is always helpful at the theme parks. I was able to compare reviews of rides which I already knew from previous visits with new rides I was unfamiliar with. I found the comments on the rides I knew to be clear, concise and accurate and I was generally in agreement with them. This gives me confidence that the reviews of the newer rides will be similarly accurate and relevant. I also found the comments from the kids in the book very helpful and sometimes surprising. Its hard for an adult to put themselves in a child's mind and this book helps considerably in this respect.

In conclusion I would highly recommend this book, especially for first time visitors but also for people, like myself, going back for a visit after a few years away.

This was recommended to me as essential reading for a first time Disney visitor and I was quite happy with the purchase. It is written in a friendly chatty style and does cover travel with all ages of children up to teenage. I shall be following the advice and tips in the book. All in all it seems to do exactly what it says on the cover.

This is generally a very useful guide but it is a "subset" of the complete unofficial guide. Some of the maps lacked detail!

Awesome kid info! 12 Oct. 2011
By Julie Armstrong - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I bought a regular TUG 2009 at a discount store to start learning info about our trip in Jan 2012. So much has changed since we went in 2000! I decided to get an updated version because of all the changes (or so I've heard, this is our first family trip.) This book is essential in any form. LOTS of good info for parents, especially if you have preschoolers. It is a smaller book compared to the TUG WDW, but more focused on kids. It condenses some of the WDW hotel info and does not include as many of the reader comments. Fully describes the attractions and shows to help you decide what the kids will like. Great book!

Unbelieveable 15 Feb. 2012
By Janette Pace - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
When planning a trip to Walt Disney World I ran across this book at a local library. I picked it up and was immediately impressed at the wealth of information and tips about visits to WDW. However, I was skeptical of the authors' promises that their touring plans would minimize our wait times in line, but still bought the book and tried out the touring plans for families with small children at Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Our family had passes for Disneyland for years and we never knew any touring plans existed, so we would spend our days at Disneyland and California Adventure wandering around and standing in long lines. When we tried the touring plan out at Walt Disney World we had low expectations. After only 2 hours at Epcot we had already seen 8 major attractions. By the end of the day we had been on every single attraction, and this scenario was repeated at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, using the touring plans in the book. We were quickly blown away at their efficiency, accuracy and our ability to see the maximum number of attractions in one day! We had planned to visit the Magic Kingdom for two days, but found that by following the touring plans we could see almost all the attractions in one day instead of two. (Granted, we went in early February which is a slower time of year.) I highly recommend this book for its invaluable tips, accurate assessments of rides, food and hotels and especially for the touring plans! When you spend thousands of dollars on a vacation, you want to make sure you're prepared and informed so you don't waste a minute of your precious family time. I've already recommended this book to many friends, and will continue to do so.

A must for families with small kids 17 Jan. 2012
By Rusty - Published on Amazon.com

OK, I'm going out on a limb as we are still in the planning stages of our trip, but I think this guide will prove to be invaluable. Despite being a seasoned traveler (with and without kids) and having been to Disney World once and Disney Land twice (as an adult, going with other adults) this book had suggestions/recommendations for things I would never have thought of based on the authors's experiences and surveys of families who have attended previously (who knew that you need to make your reservation SIX months in advance for some of more popular restaurants and character meals?!) and contingency plans (OK, so you didn't plan ahead 6 months, what places STILL may have reservations 1-2 months ahead of when you want to go), descriptions and ratings of lodging, restaurants, attractions (i.e., do most preschoolers consider this ride too scary?), how to beat the crowds (which is not something I worried about too much previously but now know that long waits in line in the hot sun with small kids is a recipe for disaster!). The end of book includes suggested touring schedules (if you want to spend 1 day in the Magic Kingdom-follow this itinerary to see the major sites with the least crowds; If you want to spend 2 days in the Magic Kingdom, follow this one, etc).

Excellent resource 5 July 2012
By M. M. Hong - Published on Amazon.com

I ordered this book and the Birnbaum Guides to Walt Disney World. I liked both, but found this one to have so much more information. I really like the tips that actual families wrote in. They were funny and so helpful. It felt like friends were telling you about their trips and what to do and what not to do. For each park there are specific descriptions for each attraction. These include if preschool, teens, adults, etc. would like them. It also is really clear about scary or possibly frightening attractions.

This book is jammed pack with information(the font is pretty small). There are itineraries in the back for example: 1 day at Magic Kingdom, 1 day at Magic Kingdom with Kids, etc. We actually didn't use the itineraries because we were with our 3 year old, and she was more interested in seeing the characters and shows than waiting in line for the rides.

Finally, though I appreciated both books, I found the Walt Disney World Web page to be very valuable as well. I could find out where things were, when, etc. and I double checked what the books mentioned with the webpage and was glad I did in some cases.

The only complaint I had for both books was there was a lot of talk about the new additions to Fantasyland including: Princess Hall, Belle's Village and library, etc. but according to the WDW webpage, most of these attractions won't be opening until Dec 2012 and early 2013. I was confused about this until I checked online with WDW directly. I know this is not really the authors' fault as they publish books in advance using information that Disney provides, but it made planning a bit more confusing. We went in July 2012.

Great, informative book. The book is easy to use and you can quickly find what you are searching for. It has lots of tips, information, and is a musthave for your Disney trip. The book is small and light enough to fit carry along with you in the parks.
