Joyce Carol Oates, December 2005. Novelist; Roger S. Berlind Distinguished Professor of the Humanities (Princeton University, New Jersey); and winner of the Prix Femina Etranger 2005 and the Common Wealth Award for Distinguished Service in Literature 2003.

"These classic tales, elegantly eerie, hypnotic and unsettling, are perfectly rendered here, in a manner that would have thrilled Lovecraft."

S.T. Joshi, January 2006. Specialist in Literary Horror, and author of H. P. Lovecraft - A Life (1996) and A Subtler Magick: The Writings and Philosophy of H. P. Lovecraft (1995).

"Superlative reading of some of Lovecraft's most intriguing shorter tales. Mr Cade's recitals bring out new beauties and new terrors."

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrifying AND Charming, 20 Feb 2006

Michelle (Montreal, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Unnameable: Four Tales of Horror by H.P. Lovecraft - The Book, The Music of Erich Zann, The Cats of Ulthar, and The Unnameable. (Audio CD)
This production is full of poeticism and along with the music it makes it one to listen to over and over again - and it's not often you can say that about a talking-book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovecraft at Last !, 5 Oct 2006
This review is from: The Unnameable: Four Tales of Horror by H.P. Lovecraft - The Book, The Music of Erich Zann, The Cats of Ulthar, and The Unnameable. (Audio CD)
What a wonderful treat the listener has in store for this great CD of stories from the works of H.P.Lovecraft.

I starting playing this one myself planning to continue working at my desk but by the end of the first track I had stopped and devoted my full attention to this masterful reading.

I have been a collector and reader of HPL's work for many years and have heard a number of other recordings of his work, but David Cade's extraordinary sensitivity to his source material sets this apart from all others I have heard. THIS IS LOVECRAFT AS HE SHOULD BE PRESENTED !!. The music of Roberto Barzini complements the performances perfectly without overpowering Mr. Cade's performance.

I for one look forward to more of Mr. Cade's work, be it more of H.P.Lovecraft or otherwise, Buy this one, it's a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing Readings!, 17 Mar 2006
This review is from: The Unnameable: Four Tales of Horror by H.P. Lovecraft - The Book, The Music of Erich Zann, The Cats of Ulthar, and The Unnameable. (Audio CD)
It's amazing I've been reading my Lovecraft stories for years now and love them, but to hear Cade reading them, bringing out all sorts of meanings and nuances and things I had not noticed is a real pleasure, bringing the stories to new life and really vividly. The production is technically superb as well, and just the right kind of music (and not too intrusive). It's not one to listen to lightly though, like in the car or on the bus - it needs quiet and concentration to let it all sink in. Great buy and at the price it is it's a bargain.
