Book Description

1 Mar 2013 Mills & Boon Historical
STAND AND DELIVER! Incorrigible Jack Beaufort, Earl of Frensham, with a scandal at his heels, is taking an enforced sojourn in the country. He hardly expects to confront a highwayman in this quiet retreat. Or to discover, when he lays hands on the villain, a form that is undeniably female... Should he unmask the daring Miss Lacey and hand her over to the law? Or follow his rakish instincts to take the law and that temptingly curvaceous form into his own hands?

More About the Author

Isabelle Goddard was born into an army family and spent her childhood moving around the UK and abroad. Unsurprisingly it gave her itchy feet and in her twenties she escaped from an unloved secretarial career to work as cabin crew and see the world.

The arrival of marriage, children and cats meant a more settled life in the south of England, where she has lived ever since. It also gave her the opportunity to go back to 'school' and eventually teach at university.

Isabelle loves the nineteenth century and grew up reading Georgette Heyer, so when she plucked up the courage to begin writing herself her first novel had to be a Regency romance. Reprobate Lord Runaway Lady was published in January, 2011 and since then five more novels have rolled off the press. www.isabellegoddard.com has all the details.

She has had enormous fun writing Regencies but in 2014 published her first romantic suspense novel The Crystal Cage, writing as Merryn Allingham. Merryn's new project is a romantic suspense trilogy set in the 1930s/1940s moving between India and Britain. The series follows the fortunes of Daisy Driscoll, a working class girl from London. The first book should be out next January, so take a look at www.merrynallingham.com for the latest news.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read 29 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I always enjoy the rich mix of good writing, historical knowledge and romance that Isabelle Goddard brings to her novels and this book is no exception. Lucinda is a feisty heroine who leads Jack a merry dance as he tries to keep up with her antics. If you enjoy Regency Romance this will soften your heart and make you smile.

You know what you're getting with Miss Goddard's books and this one didn't disappoint. I have read several of her novels and she certainly knows the period. A very enjoyable read, as always.

By Julie
Lucinda Lacey is in desperate need of money. With her brother in debtors' prison, Lucinda must raise enough cash to ensure that her beloved sibling's life isn't threatened any further. With no other option open to her, the gently bred Lucinda must throw all caution to the wind, wear men's clothes and risk her life on the open road by adopting the guise of a highwayman. Lucinda has so far managed to evade the long arm of the law, but the burden of fear lays heavily upon her shoulders. With her guardian refusing to help her brother during this trying time, Lucinda must continue to court danger if she is to find the money which her brother so desperately needs. But when during one of her escapades, Lucinda comes across the incorrigible Jack Beaufort, Earl of Frensham, little does she realise that she has just stumbled straight into a situation that is even more dangerous than the hangman's noose...

With scandal dogging his every move, Jack had decided to leave the bustle and hustle of London for the tranquil surroundings of the Sussex countryside. Jack had imagined spending most of his sojourn enjoying the peace and quiet of the English countryside - he certainly never expected to find himself facing a highwayman's weapon the very first moment he set foot in Sussex! But worse was to come for Jack. No sooner had he recovered from his rather traumatic ordeal that he found himself locking horns with the delectable Miss Lucinda Lacey - a beautiful young woman whom he's adamant he's already met. Lucinda swears that she's never clapped eyes on him before which makes Jack suspicious that the woman he cannot stop thinking about is hiding a secret so dangerous that she daren't reveal it to anyone...

An inconvenient attraction to a man like Jack Beaufort is the last thing Lucinda needs!
