I brought the unlocked version of this to drive my ipod and laptop when away on business. Uk buyers dont be alarmed when the unit arives badged as '3' network.
There were no issus with unit recognising my 'Orange' sim card and obtaining a signal on the newtwork. Similary connecting wifi enabled devices to the device is a dream, simply enter the encryption key and you are immediatly connected.
Unfortunately thats where the success ended.
The device would not connect to the web, prefering to toggle between coonecting and disconecting as the ipod attempted to visit a web site.
Eventually after connectin the device to my laptop the software auto installed and I was able to load the 'controls dashboard' which is one the most intuitive I have come across.
The range of controls, from basic setting to advanceed is really good. For the device to work (other than with the original'3' sim card) you will need to go into the advanced setting and manually input connecting settings from orange (or your chosen internet provider).
Orange technical helpline were really obiging in giving me the setting the menus required, and after several minutes I was online with both my ipod and laptop.
You can connect up to five devices (the most I had was 3) but even with three the speed was still reasonably good.
The OLED screen is very clear and displays a whole host of information including what the current download usuage is.
If youy are going to try and dowload a technical manual from Huawei ... dont bother!! technical support from their web site is hopeless. Not what I would expect from a manufacturer of their stature.
All in all a really god bit of kit, but if you are going to use an unlocked one be prepared for some sweat and tears before you get any use out of it
