5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book and give your dog a treat... 24 Oct 2007
    Format:Paperback
If you want to enhance your communication with your dog and get more feedback and understanding in your relationship, this book leads you through assessment of any problems, and shows as well as any book can, what to do and how.
Sarah's work with horses, dogs, cats and other animals and birds is wonderful, and connects the physical and the emotional in a way that many other descriptions of canine behaviour and training regimes do not. My take on it is that your dog finds that you can make him feel comfortable in his body, and thus trust is built, and he can learn to react more calmly.
This book should be read through before you turn to your dog, and then assessment is the first step. It is clear and well illustrated and a thousand miles away from a training manual. Like healing; this is 'hands on', like physiotherapy; it rectifies the damage to the physical caused by wear and tear or injury; and as dog lovers want; it focuses the touching we love giving to our dogs into something useful and therapeutic.
If you are looking for a calm, considerate interaction with your dog that connects mind, body and spirit (yours and his), this is for you.
If you simply want an obedient dog who is terrified of you, so toes the line, go elsewhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars On behalf of all dogs - Thank you Sarah 13 Nov 2007
    Format:Paperback
This is a must read book for anybody who is interested in dogs from the pet owner to the professional. Sarah's passion for TTouch and her desire to discourage us from limiting the possibility for change by labelling behaviour shines through. This is not a stuffy book that talks down to people. It has beautiful, descriptive photographs and clear, concise text that makes it easy for anybody who reads it to step back and look at dogs from a totally different perspective. This book really helps to fit more pieces into the facinating jig-saw that is dog behaviour and training. On behalf of all dogs and their people - thank you Sarah.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book dogs have been waiting for 12 Nov 2007
    Format:Paperback
Anyone who has a dog, should have this book. Anyone who works with dogs should beg, steal or borrow a copy (or else be forced at gunpoint to read it!!).

This is the book dogs have been waiting for... a book that gives owners an empathy for their dogs, an ability to see below the surface, and an understanding that goes far beyond the labels that many current trendy dog trainers seem to want to put on dogs... "Oh, she's dominant", "he's an alpha male" or "she's aggressive" or any one of a whole list of labels that don't help dogs and their relationship with their people in the slightest.

This is a book that encourages people to look at their dogs in a whole new light (really look at them) - and more to the point to look at behaviour and training problems in a whole new light - one that benefits their dogs and also themselves. This book gives people the skill to see what their dog is telling them every minute of the day by the way he walks, holds himself, how his coat grows, how he stands, how he sits and much more. It also very simply explains how people can change behaviour by working with their dog on these physical issues.

This is a book that will inspire owners and trainers to study dogs far closer than ever before - and actually see them for what they are. It will improve the relationship people have with their dogs and inspire a real trust and communication between the species. If you want to have a true partnership with your dog, this is the book for you.

It is a ground-breaking book, and one that is destined to improve the lives of countless dogs. It takes our relationships with our dogs onto a new and higher level. No one can read this book and look at dogs the same way ever again.

    Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book comes highly recommended. Sarah is an excellent dog handler. The book has a lot of photos, it explains things clearly and succinctly. Sarah uses T-Touch therapy and the book explains all about it. Its a must for anyone who wants to know more about T-touch and massage.

I would hazard a guess that if your dog could express a preference this would be the book he would want you to read! It is different to most other training books - it will not tell you how to teach your dog to sit or lie down or stay (I suspect that might have been what the author of "Did I miss something" was looking for). What it will do is change the way you view your dog forever. It will help you to communicate much more effectively with your dog - to "read" your dog's body language and respond accordingly. It will teach you techniques that will build your dog's self confidence, and enable him to act rather than react to all sorts of situations.

This is a practical training book - techniques are clearly described and beautifully illustrated. Specific behaviours are dealt with. But more than that it is about our relationship with and respect for the animals we live with. If you value that then read this book.

    3.0 out of 5 stars On the fence .... 29 Nov 2009
    By Ms
    Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have heard excellent things about TTouch, Linda Tellington Jones and Sarah Fisher, and was looking forward to studying the method through this book. I have read it through carefully several times and have come to the conclusion that a video and hands-on course are really what are needed here. Assessing the dog involves careful observation of body language and movement - both difficult to convey in text and still photographs - and feeling for "hot spots" and tension - difficult to do without practical experience. The actual stroking methods are certainly enjoyable for my dogs, but are not significantly different from the way I have always petted my animals. The exercises look useful - but again, a video or live demonstration would be much better. My dogs are not problem dogs - they are young, but reasonably well-adjusted and well-behaved. Perhaps if I had a specific problem to work on I would have found this book more useful - as it is, I shall continue to watch out for a suitable workshop or demonstration.
