Book Description

THE NUMBER 1 BEST-SELLER

“Takes you on a journey into the darkest recesses of the human mind.”

“Brilliant, fast paced...a book that gets you hooked from the first page.”

Usually a serial killer will have a modus operandi that can lead to their capture. This one is breaking all the rules.

It takes a journalist's keen eye to grasp the terrifying truth. This killer is recreating infamous murders from history. Despite researching historical murders in an attempt to catch the killer in the act, the police are repeatedly outwitted. With the Jack the Ripper murders next on the agenda, a bloodbath seems inevitable.

With the clock ticking and the killer becoming increasingly frenzied, a detective and criminal psychologist join forces to stop this unlikely killer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 10 Mar. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This has to be one of the best books I've read in a long time - one of those you don't forget easily, and can't put down until you finish. The plot draws you in and then takes you on a ride which is both thrilling and gruesome at the same time. You are privy to both the mind of the killer and the main policeman's, but the identity of the killer is never telegraphed in advance. The end was so shocking and surprising, I had to go back a few pages and read them again, to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. Along the way there are small side stories going on including the state of the policeman's marriage and family life, the way this case impacts on it - all of which knit together brilliantly, but do not detract from the main story, which is the manhunt for this dreadful killer. I'd never heard of this writer before, but I shall be looking for them again, after reading this un-put-downable book. Don't think about it - buy it - you won't regret it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wish I Could Give It More 30 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having read a lot of reviews about this book, I agree with a lot of points already made.
The good points first. This is a great story and I havent read a book like it for a long time. It definately starts as a cannot put down book and this continues for over half of the story. The main characters are well described and easy to associate with and each main event is documented in detail.
Then the bad points. As mentioned previously by contributors, far too many murders drag the book from a realistic thriller to fantasy. It just becomes too much. Whilst I appreciate fiction, I do expect this sort of book to stay realistic and I just dont think this is in the end.
I do accept that police officers make mistakes but there is no way I can believe that this killer cold have been at large as long as in this book in the real world.
Other reviewers are correct to point out that murders on motorways and that amount of credit card use just doesnt go undetected like this.
I also cant accept how certain characters just happen to be targets of the killer near the end. Its just a bit too far feteched for me.
If it was a couple of murders shorter and a bit more life realistic, this book would be a definate four stars if not five.
Unlike some reviewers who refer to the main characters marriage sub plot being unecessary, I would have actually preferred less murder and more of that. Kreins relationship with his wife and daughter are hardly mentioned in the first half of the book and then it becomes a focal point of the story. I think I would have liked to have had more of that relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant surprise! 28 July 2011
By Louise
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is one of the best books that I have read in a very long time, and some three weeks after finishing the book I am still thinking of the characters and how they fitted into the story! I have recommended the book to my Dad, who is the biggest critic I know, and he is half way through and still intrigued with no idea of who the killer is. The people were interesting and although not fully explored (because of the complexity of the storyline), they were generally deserved of empathy. Very very well thought out, with complex characters and a real surprise ending, I really do recommend this book. If I was a betting person I would lay odds against anyone who says they can identify the killer! So lovely to get a real good surprise in the final few pages! Shame there's no more to read from this author yet, I'll be first in the queue when it comes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlkely Killer 5 Nov. 2010
By zannah
Format:Paperback
The title of this book says it all.
Both emotional and cunning, when it comes to constructing a harrowing plot. Ricki juggles twist after twist with genuine glee. She will take you on a journey into the the darkest recesses of the human mind. Intriguing, I was totally surprised by the identity of the killer. The reader is... kept guessing almost to the very end of the book.
Ricki writes to be understood and appreciated by her audiance, and to educate of the fragility of the human mind - she succeeds!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlikely to be put down! 4 Jan. 2013
By JRayne
Format:Kindle Edition
This book fascinated me from the beginning. I found the concept of the killer's 'Duties' intriguing and unusual. I have read books about copycat killings before, but I loved how the killer in this one matched up the dates rather than following any particular killer's method. This was a good twist on a familiar theme. I found the story unpredictable and engrossing, with plenty of gore. An original and addictive story. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping!!! 9 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book quite some time ago, as it was free at the time, but completely forgot about it! I have just read it and WOW!! I was literally hooked from the early descriptions of the frenetic car journey ending in Dorset(partly because it is local to me!!), right the way through to its staggering ending!

The author barely lets us draw breath, as one thing happens hot on the heels of another (I dont want to give anything away!!). I am usually pretty astute at guessing endings, but this one eluded me, until almost the very last!

If you enjoy well written, fast paced, crime thrillers then this book is a must read!!

What are you waiting for.....go get it NOW!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A curious read 16 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a rather curious book. I had to keep reading as I really did want to find out who this unlikely killer was. However, there were an awful lot of murders in a very short time and, in the end, the killer really did turn out to be a very unlikely person and, unlike some other reviewers, I didn't guess who it was before the end. The author used some words in a very strange way - and I was particularly amused by the use of the word "nonchalant" in at least two places when it was very obviously inappropriate! There were others, too many to mention, but my award of 3 stars has nothing to with the misuse of words, the unfortunate formatting, the spelling mistakes or the grammatical errors, all of which abound in this e-book. The 3 stars are awrded for the story which moves at a fast pace and the descriptions which are vivid enough to enable the reader to visualise the scenes. As other reviewers have pointed out, there are several gaping holes in the plot - the credit card, the murder on the motorway etc, but if you read the book as a light entertainment, they don't really matter. Quite a good read, if a little superficial.

If it was a film it would be a slasher . If there had been a bit of comedy in it ,could of mistaken the book for a tim ellis read. Read more
