A decent early reader 11 Aug. 2012
By Lisa - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
A decent early reader, particularly for young animal lovers.

This book is a collection of 5 stories of animal friendships, designed to appeal to kids in the 6-10 age range. In terms of reading level, it's comparable to an early chapter book -- a bit harder than Frog and Toad, but only a bit. Each story is quite short (4-10 pages), there's a fair amount of white space on each page, and there are some nice pictures.

I think Book 2 (The Dog & the Piglet) in this series is better than Books 1 or 3. This one feels a little dumbed-down, and several of the stories end with the friends going to different places and never seeing each other again. (The way of life, perhaps, but it feels sad.) The pictures are adorable, but there aren't enough of them (book 2 has many more).

I'm certainly happy for kids who want animal stories to read this book; I just don't think I rises above "fine".

(Note: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher at an American Library Association Annual Conference. I was not required to write a positive review. Thank you, Workman!)

An inspiration of love for God's fuzzy children 3 Jan. 2014
By P. Noma - Published on Amazon.com

I love animals so much that my tv only broadcasts Animal Planet, unless, of course, we are experiencing a 9 magnitude earthquake, a giant tsunami, or nuclear meltdowns here in Japan. Among the several animal-related books and DVDs i recently bought, I intended to share this one with my third-grade ESL children. The stories are very beautifully touching, as I had expected. I gave it as a Christmas gift to a former student, now in the fifth grade, who became a vegan after witnessing the horrific trauma of the slaughtering of an animal in the Philippines. I have since ordered another in this series to share with my present students. Get this precious little book to share with children. It would make a magnificent gift for any child on any occasion.

Precious 2 Jan. 2014

These stories are precious. My 7-year old enjoys reading them independently and telling us about the relationships. There are many short stories in one book which is convenient as well.

Granddaughter adore it. Can you believe a leopard can be friends with a cow. Well in this story it happens. So fun for all ages
