Listened to this album on cd the other night and there is no doubt about it has to be one of the best, if not the best live album on record, the others being Scorpions's Tokyo Tapes and Thin Lizzy's Live and dangerous.
Recorded on the killing machine tour of Japan 1978, Unleashed is a refreshing and adrenaline pumping listen all the way through and is a great showcase of an extraodinary live metal band at their peak. The selection of classic songs are played much faster and are much more energetic than the studio cuts, the twin axe attack of tipton and downing has never been better and Halford really is at the top of his game here, hitting high note after high note without having to think about it.
I first bought this album on vinyl back in the early 80's and it sounds better than ever on cd now, back then you got a free 7" single with bonus tracks rock forever, hell bent for leather and beyond the realms of death. On this cd there is unfortunately no beyond the realms which is a great shame as it is one of their best songs, the cd gives you the 2 aforementioned tracks plus delivering the goods and starbreaker in place of beyond the realms, 2 great songs but I know which track I'd rather have. However, this is a minor criticism as this truly is a must have cd for anyone even remotely into metal, it doesnt get much better than this!
