Although 1988's OU812 was another mega-seller for Van Halen, it turned out to be a somewhat rushed affair, since the group was under a strict deadline to finish it in time for thestart of the band's summer concert festival, "Monsters of Rock". More time was spent on 1991's FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE, and it shows--it's one of the best and most consistent Van Halen release of the Sammy Hagar era. It also turned out to be the line-up's heaviest and most rock-oriented release, due in part to the involvement of Led Zeppelin producer Andy Johns.
The album spawned several popular singles andMTV videos, such as the album-opening "Poundcake" (which the group performed live on the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards), and the more pop-oriented tracks "Runaround", "Top of the World", and "Right Now". Also featured was the Eddie Van Halensolo guitar piece "316" (written for his newly-born son, Wolfgang), as well as "Judgement Day", "Pleasure Dome", and "Man on a Mission". The ensuing tour for the album eventually resulted in Van Halen's first live album, 1993's LIVE: RIGHTHERE, RIGHT NOW.

Although I would rate the slightly earlier album, 5150, equally as high as F.U.C.K, this album is clearly a showcase for this legendary band's talents. You can hear the supreme musicianship of Eddie, Alex and Mike on the track Pleasure Dome, and the vocal intensity of Sammy Hagar on almost all the other tracks. I definitely rate Sammy Hagar higher than David Lee Roth as a singer and this album shows why. From Eddie's electric drill in Poundcake to the thundering drums on Pleasure Dome, this is a rock album which has to be experienced.

After David Lee Roth left Van Halen in the mid 80's and Sammy Hagar replaced him, the debate continues about who was the best.

Me? - I like them both!

This is the third of four studio albums that Van Halen released, with Sammy Hagar as the bands singer, between 1986 and 1995.

To me it's the weakest of the four records.

Personally, I think that a few of the songs, like "Spanked" and "Man on a Mission" let the album down, and to me it's not a true representation of Van Halen at their best.

F.U.C.K. is still a good record, and worth having, particularly for some of the better moments like "Poundcake", "Judgement Day" and "The Dream is Over", but if you're new to Van Halen, check out one of their other albums (either the earlier David Lee Roth stuff or other Sammy Hagar recordings) first.

By the time this album was released Sammy Hagar had proven himself to be worthy of being Van Halen vocalist and i think for the first time gets to sing like he likes to sing. Maybe this is one reason this album still seems to be the most mature of the 90's Van Halen albums. It has the feeling of enjoyment of making and playing the music and it sounds so relaxed, contrary of other 90's albums. One of the alltime favourites on my collection and one of the best Van Halen albums.
