More About the Author

During Lazlo Ferran's extraordinary life, he has been an aeronautical engineering student, dispatch rider, graphic designer, full-time busker, guitarist and singer (recording two albums, one of Arabic music featuring the rhythms of Hossam Ramzy). He has traveled widely and had a long and successful career within the science industry but now left employment in the public sector to concentrate on writing. He has lived and worked in London since 1985 and grew up in the home counties of England.

Brought up as a Buddhist, in recent years he has moved towards an informal Christian belief and has had close contact with Islam and Hinduism. He has a deep and lasting interest in theology and philosophy. His ideas and observations form the core of his novels. Here, evil, good, luck and faith battle for control of the souls who inhabit his worlds.

He has traveled widely, living for a while in Cairo during 1982. Later, he spent some time in Central Asia having various adventures, one of which was getting married in the traditional Kyrgyz style. He has a keen interest in the Far East, Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe - the latter informing his series of books about vampires and werewolves. He keeps very busy as a self-supported writer but is a big movie buff and still pursues his other interests of history and genealogy.

Although this is the second part of what promises to be a very exciting trilogy, it is also very much a standalone novel. The best way to describe Iron II is a subtle blending between Stargate and The Flight of the Phoenix. Without giving too much away, the basic plot is about three space academy graduates who crash land on an unknown planet inhabited by primitive humanoid warring tribes. The three's knowledge of science and technology make them almost godlike in the eyes of the planet's inhabitants, yet they soon discover that they are not the first beings from the stars to visit here. They befriend one of the tribes and manage to convince them to help with the tremendous task of recovering their space craft from beneath the shifting desert sand. During the course of repairing the ship they undergo many trials and tribulations - some excitingly dangerous whilst others are laugh-out-loud humorous. Lazlo Ferran has managed to create a truly believable scenario of adventure and intrigue that will keep you turning the pages all the way to the end. Recommended!

HASH(0x9affb720) out of 5 stars A change in style into Drama that naturally flows from the first book in the series. 28 April 2014
By Colorado Watch Company - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Iron 2 is different from Too Bright The Sun in that it is not a novel that focuses on laser fights and narrow escapes. Instead, the author is able to change his style at will, and provide us with drama that focuses on explaining many questions about the nature of the conflict seen in Iron 1. It reminds me of Hawking’s quote of how Aliens are less likely to be benevolent, but more likely to try to wipe us out to suit their whims. The humans are behind in technology, and are only now finding out how their very history and culture has been affected by the Aliens. There is a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of this book that now makes me wonder just how the humans will fare in the sure-to-be full scale conflict of his next book.
One must make a decision of which Sci-Fi books to read: eons-long conflict of soldiers in a battle simply set in the future that are only good for one book, or the foundations of a plausibly realistic, complex conflict set in the future that rightfully merits a full series.
HASH(0x9a62fa38) out of 5 stars A great read that lays the foundation for the Iron Universe 28 April 2014

I was first turned on to this author by Too Bright The Sun. It was an action filled Sci Fi read that extends beyond your standard Sci Fi books out there, with a deep and rich level of character development. Iron 2 continues along this vein. We are given new characters who are thrust via time travel into a planet where they have to use their wits to not only survive, but eventually become leaders for a struggling humanoid clan.
In and on itself, it is a good novel, but its main purpose is to focus on introducing us to the Iron series Universe. Here we are shown what the Aliens behind the scenes that caused the conflict in Iron 1 are like, their beliefs, and their menacing intrusion into human affairs. Being able to understand the Alien’s philosophies and true intentions sets us up for what is sure to be a great third volume to the series. Can’t wait for its release.
