Review

'This really is a survival guide covering just about every aspect of going to and and staying at university. Its layout and use of real case studies means it's a guide students can easily dip into - and more importantly, they will really relate to the examples quoted. I couldn't fault it's comprehensive coverage; I can only highlight what I thought were the most useful sections.' --Lesley Lodge, parentingwithouttears.com

'Coates' advice is excellent at reflecting the real face of student culture, and stretches to cover what friends to make, and other less conventional ways of getting free stuff. A genuine, step-by-step guide to all the basics of starting university, it teaches you just how to look after yourself. Fun-loving and down-to-earth, there are plenty of gems to be found within.' --Studentbeans.com.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the clueless? 6 Sep 2010
By Vi
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I had thought, judging by the other review, that this book would be really good and bought this as the book to read prior to going to university. But after receiving it I was pretty disappointed. I did not find anything in the book useful to myself at all. It told me everything I already knew. I think that this book is made for those who are absolutely clueless about what is about to happen to them. But by the time you are buying this book you should know most of things that it tells you already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book 5 April 2013
Format:Paperback
Anne's comprehensive guide to preparing for university is a guide every student should read. I particularly enjoyed her discussion about the importance of hand towels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going to Uni - you need this! 6 July 2009
Format:Paperback
This really IS a survival guide, covering just about every aspect of going to university and staying at university. Its layout and use of real case studies means that it's a guide students can easily dip into - and more importantly, they will really relate to the examples quoted. I couldn't fault its comprehensive coverage.

The book starts with the basics of student finances, banking and accommodation and it is these that will be especially useful to parents as well, particularly before the student sets off for university. There is also a later chapter on day-to-day finances at university. I was impressed with the number of tips which anticipated and dealt with problems that may arise sometime in the future (especially valuable if like most school leavers you've been used to focusing, until now, mostly only as far ahead as next Saturday's night out). Taking the advice set out in the book on choosing and setting up a bank account in good time could stop you being one of the many students who find themselves penniless in practice when they first arrive, unable to access their student loan even though it's been allocated to them.

There's lots more though - be sure to take it with you to Uni
