And so following A State of Trance 2009 comes van Buurens other yearly compilation. Universal Religion, now on its fourth chapter, showcases what many believe Armin does best; play a live set in front of a live crowd, recorded at one of the worlds most reputable nightclubs, Amnesia in Ibiza.

The mix starts off fairly typical of a van Buuren set, the tunes being of a fairly slow pace and very much melody and vocal-driven. Though the tracks are vocal heavy to begin with, they do compliment each tune well and are delivered beautifully by the likes of Jaren, Cathy Burton and JES. From Daniel Kandi's 'Venice Beach' the tracks are very much dancefloor orientated as the pace begins to quicken and the beats get harder. Energetic tunes from the likes of Activa, Roger Shah and Ian Betts are sure to keep you moving but interlaced within are a few melodic numbers from Lange & Andy Moor, RAM and TyDi featuring some euphoric breakdowns, allowing you to regain your breath.

As you would come to expect from a live mix, each track is unique and worthy of its place, no fillers on here. The track ordering is spot on and the mixing is pretty much flawless throughout. The real gem about the CD though is the balance Armin finds throughout the mix; each thumping anthem is balanced with a more melodic number and there is a uniqueness factor from each track to keep the listener hooked and anticipating the next tune. The occasional roar from the Amnesia clubbers during the breakdowns is also an added bonus. If you can't make it to a van Buuren set any time soon, this is the next best thing.

This album is utterly brilliant, absolutly loved State of Trance '09 and saw Armin at Amnesia this year so was really looking forward to this album and it doesn't dissapoint.

Tracks 1 - 6 are vocal and very euphoric and 7 - 14 are the best (Tuven in particular) new Trance music around, take it from me this album can make you feel like you are there!!

80 minutes of pure bliss. Van Buuren cuts straight to the chase from the first beats. An intense experience - which would only have been equalled by actually being there at 'Amnesia' August '09.

Van Buuren is a musician first and foremost - he has an understanding of the places dance music can take you to, and then goes way beyond. He is also a magician, an artisan - the skills he uses in the mixing here are nothing short of genius.

This is an incredibly beautiful album. Trance music - alive, buzzing, transcendent, heart and soul baring - with enough breathless changes of pace and beat to make an angel orgasm. Music doesn't get much better than this. 'Chapter 4' genuinely deserves the description 'awesome' - in the real sense of the word. Perfecto.

This Is Why Armin Is Ranked #1 DJ In The World! 12 Oct 2009

Amazing compilation by Armin with the freshest and latest in trance and progressive. So many tunes that give you goosebumps and leave you feeling positive and upbeat. This is what trance is all about -- uplifting, upbeat dance melodic dance music with beautiful, meaningful vocals!

Armin's remix of "Beggin' You" by Cerf, Mitiska, and Jaren is hands down my favorite track of this compilation. The remix beat Armin added to this particular tune has more of "jungle" feel to it and is matched by exquisite melodic sounds. The vocals by Jaren gives me goosebumps! I also love Armin's remix of BT's "Every Other Way". Fantastic remix with amazing sound arrangement! I also really like "Venice Beach" by Daniel Kandi. "Healesville Sanctuary" and "RAMsterdam" are amazing tunes that you can listen to over and over again and not get sick of them! They have the potential of being the "Tune of the Year" on Armin's weekly A State Of Trance radioshow. Overall, the transition between each tune is incredibly smooth and flawless. Since this compilation was recorded live at Amnesia nightclub in the party/club island of Ibiza, Spain back in July 2009, Armin included the background sounds of the audience at appropriate times throughout the compilation to make you feel that you are actually there with the crowd in the club back on that hot summer night!

This album is perfect to play during a workout, on your way to a bar or club, or at a party with friends at home. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thank you Armin for yet another incredible compilation!

A+ for Armin on This One! 14 Oct 2009

I'll keep this short and to the point.
This CD NEEDS to be in your collection! This is the first Universal Religion Album I've bought. But I am not disappointed at all!
The first 2 tracks on the CD will give you a taste of whats to come, the whole CD is amazing and I must second that #5 "Beggin You" is one of the best songs I've heard in a while! Buy this album and I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed!

I have bought a lot of Trance records this year (Kaleidoscope, ASoT 09, Anjunabeats Vol 7, etc.), but this one comes out on top!
One of the better Universal Religion albums 9 July 2014

One of the better Universal Religion albums. If you don't know where to start, try this one. If you don't care for the music, then the other ones probably won't be enjoyable. Lots of great tracks on here with a variety of trance styles. Fans of the series will be happy with this entry.
My Favourite Armin CD 2 May 2010
By Julius Oosthuizen - Published on Amazon.com

I highly recommend this disc to both existing AVB fans and those looking for an introduction to his discs. I've said it before in previous reviews, but Armin's style keeps maturing, and his ability to pace a set is amazing. The tracks flow beautifully, mixing is excellent, and the live recording adds an edge of energy to the proceedings.

I don't think any trance fan will be disappointed with this disc - together with ASOT 2009 (I haven't heard ASOT 2010 yet), this is Armin at his best.
Fantastic 2 Jan 2010

Another amazing live recording in the Universal Religion series. My only criticism is that the tracks are too short. Feels more like a studio recording than an epic mix like that of the ASOT series. Still, it's a no brainer for the AVB fans.
