Product Description

Product Description

Universal Monsters or Universal Horror is the name given to a series of distinctive horror, suspense and science fiction films made by Universal Studios from 1923 to 1960. The series began with the 1923 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and continued with such movies as The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, Werewolf of London, Son of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. The iconic gallery of monsters created by Universal has created a lasting impression on generations of avid moviegoers around the world.
Over the decades many collectables have appeared in one form or another; from Halloween masks and action figures, to coffee mugs, miniature die-cast cars, jigsaw puzzles, Pez dispensers, lunch boxes, postal stamps, and so on.
Other memorabilia include the products from Sideshow Collectibles with very accurate 12 inch (1/6 scale) "action figures" of many of the Universal Monsters, as well as museum quality 1/4 scale "Premium Format" figures usually cast from polystone with accurate cloth costumes and decoration.
In video and computer games, Universal Monsters have also made appearances in titles such as Monsterville and Darkstalkers.
The films themselves have seldom been out of print and have been widely collected in numerous formats, originally in Super 8mm, then VHS and laserdisc. In 1999, the movies first became available on DVD. Since then they have been re-mastered, re-released and re-packaged twice more: In 2004, as part of the Legacy Series and also under the 75th Anniversary banner in 2006.
The Legacy Series included The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and Creature from the Black Lagoon.
A Redford Films Exclusive! Between 1923 and 1958, Universal Studios released over 60 different monster movies, all in black and white, introducing the world to some of the most iconic screen creations of all time. In honor of that legacy, this set presents three of the most famous Universal Studios Monsters in their original black and white appearance. Box set features B& W versions of Wolfman,The Creatue and Mummy in a limited edition deluxe numbered collector box set.

Arrived this morning. The first thing that I noticed before I'd even taken them out of the box was the exquisite detail of the models. You can clearly see that this is the Boris Karloff Mummy at first glance. The detail of the fur on the werewolf is brilliant, and the Creature from the Black lagoon is spot on.

I've seen versions of these creatures in colour and wasn't very impressed with the look. These little beauties are in black and white as per the original films, and it really helps create authenticity to the figures. Black and white was the correct choice and really works.

Each figure has its own little detailed stand that helps to capture the atmosphere of the films just that little bit more. I would say that at 7inches tall these are perfect. Now I just have to save up for the Dracula/Bride etc set.

Having been a fan of the Universal Monsters since I was a Kid. I had to have these and the other sets in the series. They are great. I used to buy the old Aurora Model Kits as a Kid. These are a very good replacement while I am tracking down those kits today

Fabulous for collectors 11 April 2013

So this toy has no educational value and truthfully, it's not really meant to be played with either. What is meant for it excels at! My husband, who is a HUGE collector of monster toys, was so excited to get this set. The figures are very well done and very detailed. The stands that they provide for the figures are also quite good. While I certainly wouldn't be buying this for a four year old, I would buy it over and over again for someone who loves old horror monsters and can't get enough of the classics.

I was very pleased to recieve this item. The figures are very well made and look amazing. Love that they made them in black and white and series 2 is also very well done.
