The Allman Brothers have many discs, studio, live, compilations,so its a daunting task wanting to know where to start, you should consider this collection as a fitting place to dip your toes into the water.
All the classics are here,Ramblin Man,Midnight Rider,Jessica etc, each illustrating the different shades that the Allmans brought to their music,Country, rock, blues, the studio tracks are excellent but only give a brief glimpse of what they were capable of,in concert they had a tendency to stretch out, often comparable to the Grateful Dead.
Other highlights include 'Whipping Post' and the fantastic instrumental 'In Memory Of Elizabeth Reid' who looked after Confederate Graves i believe during the Civil War.The musicianship shown is top drawer with special mention of Dicky Betts,an unsung hero on lead guitar.
For the money you cant go wrong,it doesnt paint the whole picture but its a decent place to start.
