Synopsis
"The United Limited Edition Opus" looks at the extraordinary evolution of the club from its humble origins as a works team playing beside a railway, through the tragedy of Munich to an unprecedented Treble triumph in 1999 and beyond. With 850 pages, weighing in at over 35kg with a 500mm X 500mm (20" X 20") page format, this is a heavyweight production designed for maximum visual impact. The Opus is bound in fine leather embossed with the Manchester United logo. The pages are of 200gsm wood-free paper, all images are spot varnished, and the page edges are silver gilded. The Opus will be packed in an 8mm pressboard shell, covered in silk. The clamshell will include the logo of the club. To underline its quality, each Opus will be delivered with a pair of white gloves. The Opus features over 2,000 spectacular archive photographs carefully selected from every known agency and various private collections. These are complemented by images of an amazing array of United memorabilia dating back to the 1880s. Specially-commissioned photo shoots of past and present United players, managers (and fans) by some of the world's most respected photographers including Mathias Braschler, Chris Steele-Perkins and John Ingledew complete the visual feast. "The United Limited Edition Opus" will contain over 400,000 words written by a selection of the finest sportswriters in the UK. Wordsmiths such as Hugh McIlvanney, Patrick Barclay, James Lawton, Jim White and Jonathan Northcroft have been commissioned to ensure that the quality and originality of the writing in the United Opus is unmatched. The publisher will be holding a charity event in October 2006 in aid of UNICEF - Manchester United's chosen charity. At this event, copy 00000 of United will be auctioned. It is anticipated that this unique Opus will include signatures from all United's current squad, plus many of the living legends of United's history - a total one-off.
