Just bought the album. Its a step aside from the electronic pop we're used to and its not all bad.
First things first, the album artwork is the worst i've seen (apart from Roger Taylors Electric Fire album) The drawings of Vince and Andy are unflattering (Vince looks like a cross between an alien and a POW) Guys, did you actually approve this artwork before release or is it Mute's fault?
The Songs contain 11 mainly album songs (never released) 1 B-side and i think 2 singles.
1. Boy - the first single. Why? It wasn't one of their best and this version (actually improves on the original) but should not have been a single.
2. Piano song - original version and instrumental from WILD are beautiful, and this version is good and almost fragile sounding. Very nice, one of my faves from this album.
3. Stay with me - should have been the single, should have got airplay, should have been promoted. Excellent version and better than the original in my books. Andy's voice is strong and emotional and the instuments are wonderfully played.
4. Spiralling - average - original much better and beautifully sung.
5. Home - from the CHORUS album, very good version and sound is fantastic.
6. Tenerest moments - another wonderful version, MUTE release this, because you'd be fools not too! Amazing song and is better than the original as a B-side.
7. Alien...not bad, average song that should not have been released as another album song.
8. Blues Away - Andy...why falsetto on this one? Original version on ISAYISAYISAY is wonderful. The instruments sound rushed, Andy seems barely able to keep up with them and sounds as though he needs an anaesthetic.
9. How many times? Listen to this and you'll want to slit your wrists...the original was depressing as well.
10. Love affair - nice version.
11. Rock me gently - excellent version sounds as though its from an stage/opera show. Very grand.
An album for fans i think overall.
