Format: Hardcover
One of the Blandford guides, the book follows the usual style of A5 hardback the main element (and biggest selling point) of which is the central section of colour plates. Arranged by battles, the plates are some of the best ever to grace the series. Coverage of the different belligerent nationalities is variable (in part due to the format of the linking framework adopted), with the British, French and Prussians probably coming out on top, the Austrians a close second, followed by the Russians, then everybody else. The smaller states are represented in a somewhat hit and miss fashion, and if you are looking for information about the Swedish army in Pommerania, then you'll need to look elsewhere, as the Swedes don't get a mention! The French-Indian War receives some coverage (there's even an illustration of some obscure colonial officer called George Washington, I wonder what happened to him?), though none of the other colonial campaigns are touched upon (the lack of a section on the campaigns in India is a particular disappointment).
A superb book, and one which any fan of the period should own.

Format: Hardcover
John Mollo, the well-known expert on military dress, discusses the campaign of The Seven Years War and describes the uniforms and equipment worn in such famous battles as Rossbach, Leuthen, Minden, Kunersdorf and Warburg. In North America Braddock's defeat on the Monongahela in 1753 and Wolfe's victory at Quebec in 1759 are given special emphasis.
Malcolm McGregor, the illustrator, is now widely recognized as an outstanding military artist and in this, his third Blandford uniform book, his magnificent colour paintings are again based on actual people of the period.
