Format: Paperback
An affectionate and caring octopus saves a diver, is then taken to the diver's house to live and turns out to be talented as a musician and lifesaver - two very different skills. He is also a superb comedian, able to imitate any number of animals and objects to the amusement of bathers on the beach ... This is another delightful tale from Tomi Ungerer, one of the earlier ones, first printed in 1958 and having a limited tonal palate of green, pink, black and white, but none the less beautiful for that. It would require some translation from French but the text is minimal and Emile's expressions carry the day in any case ... Highly recommended!

But luckily very simple French, so I can read it out loud in English without my son noticing any difference.
Usual Tomi Ungerer plot of man and animal making friends and animal saving the day, but still lovely. Phaidon are publishing some of Tomi's back catalogue in English, so more are becoming available.
