So what happens when it's in paperback? Presumably, it becomes a book-in-a-paper-bag. You get to shuffle the different sections, thus reading the book in a random order. This is because the events described are being remembered haphazardly by the narrator as he walks around Nottingham. We get to share the experience of random trains of thought being prompted by different locations.
