Paul and Judy are true people that both did suffer.
Paul has been abusing Judy for years. Judy is so scared she lives on her nerves. But their eldest daughter Tammy isn't so forgiving, she encourages her mother to move on when her father walks out on them to be with his girlfriend.

Life for Paul with his new girlfriend proves violent as well. His temper causes him to beat her during an arguement when he ultimately sends her through the glass of her shower cutting her severely.

His girlfriend is not forgiving and calls her lawyer, saying she'll only drop all charges if he attends and completes a Domestic Violence programe called 'Quit,' provided he stays away from her and never speaks to her again. If he doesn't she'll have him arrested.

At first Paul is reluctant and joins the group, a group that proves worth while - being that they don't hide what they are or what they have done. The group is designed to rev up their tempers for them to understand when to call time-out and bail out.

Paul learns a lot especially when controlling his temper when Judy dominates the situation. She also helps herself and gets a job and Paul and Judy learn how to love again.

A good fim and very emotional.

This was recommended to me as I am studying Counselling, and hope to volunteer in the Domestic Violence field. You must appreciate this film as it shows the 'perps' angle of therapy and how the character evolves/devolves into an abuser.

Overall interesting film, good acting, very realistic (based on a true story).

Purchase second hand as you'll probably only watch it once!

a brilliant film with lots of truth to it. domestic violence and abuse. good for both men and women to watch.. might even educate and abusive man.. and could help a woman going through this kind of violence to wake up and do something more constructive like leave the relationship.

I was disappointed to find that the money spent on the DVD was a waste since the DVD could not be viewed in the United States. Apparently the formatting is different and I was not aware of this. It would be helpful to know this in advance. Perhaps a notice in the item description.

"TERRIFYING, EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL, DISTURBING!" 15 July 2012
By Geraldine Ahearn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
This is not the John Ritter we all fell in love with on his TV comedy shows, the guy who was loving, funny, and adorable. This is John Ritter the monster as he plays the role of Paul Hegstrom in this horrifying film, based on a true story. You will need a box of tissues to watch it, and you will ponder long after the movie has come to an end. Paul becomes brave as he gets his courage from a whiskey bottle, then he steps into violent abuse as a husband, father, and a psycho in the real world. On one particular evening, his wife was beaten by his violent impulses, nearly losing her life. He was then taken into custody and placed in therapy. The climax is astonishing, and the movie tugs at the heart throughout. Acting Performance Excellent. Highly Recommended!

John Ritter gives a superb performance in this captivating movie from beginning to end. This movie touches on all of the aspects of domestic abuse and its effect on family dynamics. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who would like to learn about this issue.

Hope for what seems hopeless! 4 Aug. 2013

Those who have been so abused while growing up, and later become as similar as the parent who abused them, and feel totally hopeless to ever change, can still be changed, with help and hard work, for the better. No matter how hopeless it may seem, there is yet hope.
Intense!!! 29 July 2013

Good redemptive true story although it deals with spousal abuse in a very intense way --- probably should preview it before deciding if it's appropriate for your child.
