Product Description

Alex was quite sure that "gifted" was a term which delusional parents applied to their strictly average children, that vampires were gorgeous dead guys in her eighth-grade girls' novels, and "Seers" was a middle schooler's misspelling of a department store famous for power tools. Teachers, however, don't know everything, and it’s Alex’s turn to be educated.

Hoping just to clear her mind, Alex Crocker leaves work for a late night run across the small city of Bristol, Massachusetts. Instead she is dragged violently into a feud she never would have known existed. She quickly learns she’s being hunted for possessing a gift she never wanted, one that could kill her or provide her the power she’ll need to protect herself and those she cares for.

Despite her desire to maintain her independence, Alex quickly becomes tied to the Rectinatti vampires through bonds of friendship, loyalty, and most surprisingly, love. These bonds, coupled with the new knowledge that she is in grave danger are enough to make her want to stay, but it’s learning what is really at stake that drives her to fight.

About the Author

Lauren Grimley lives in central Massachusetts where she grew up, but her heart is on the beaches of Cape Cod where she spends as much of her time as possible. After graduating from Boston University she became a middle school English teacher. She has her seventh graders to thank for starting her on this path; it was they who convinced a skeptical new teacher that vampire stories were worth reading. She now spends her time writing them when she should be correcting papers. You can find out much more about her work and writing at www.laurengrimley.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good read! 26 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Unforeseen was a really good read that features the well loved Vampires but that's not all because in their world, they also have a rare breed that whilst not a vampire, is very precious to their world and that is - A Seer - so rare that it has been hundreds of years since the last known seer and the vampires had thought they had died out...... Until one day, a woman is attacked and dragged into an alley, two `men' come to her rescue but their behaviour doesn't instil a feeling of safety especially when one of them tries to wipe her mind and when he fails, decides a punch in the face will suffice. So the woman - Alex - wakes up injured, in need of medical assistance, in a strange house, filled with strange people and is about to have the rug swept out from under her feet. Alex is being held against her will but quickly realises that these people are vampires and she can just `sense' that they don't mean her any harm. These people also seem to know things about her, she has always known she was different and that she sensed things others couldn't, she had a connection to her brothers who had died in a car accident ten years ago and from then on her emotions seemed so much stronger and she has always wondered about it so the lure of answers keeps her where she is but the way her captors/protectors tell it, she is in for so much more..... for Alex is a seer, an empath, attuned to others emotions, no matter if they are human or vampire, man or woman, she is able to take the emotion and identify it to the person behind it but with training she could be capable of so much more. Then they tell her not only is she about to mature and come into her powers - which could be a life or death situation - but it's also looking like she is the seer that is spoken of in a prophecy that will bring an end to the war between the two opposing vampire covens - the Rectinatti and the Vengatti and the bad guys are hunting her and you will never believe how.

I really liked this book, it was hard to put down and although the pacing wasn't my usual fast paced, action packed kind of book - it was still packed with lots of information that is going to be crucial throughout the series. In this we find out about the vampire world, how it's governed, their way of life, its customs and traditions - it was a slightly different take on the usual vampire lore and really interesting, I like what differences there are, I like the opposing sides and why they differ too. I liked that certain vamps have certain powers and will look forward to finding out more about it.
The characters were all great, I liked them all but especially Sage & Rocky and I love the protectiveness and sense of family they all have together. Of course the focus of the book was Alex and all of the discoveries and revelations she needed to make about herself, what she has begun to go through is harsh, the discoveries, the questions, the dilemmas and what's at stake aren't really good news so it was nice she got a bit of happiness and romance with Markus, he was a nice guy, very protective and adoring but to be honest, I was feeling her and Sage may have made a better connection (not that I'm complaining because I do like Markus, just my opinion)I also loved the couple of twists that took place and thought they brought something really good to the plot and of course there is the big prophecy at play and we all know I'm a sucker for those and it all leads to a final showdown that lets everyone know where they stand and the reader eagerly anticipating book two *that would be me * To sum it up though, Unforeseen is an excellent start to a new paranormal urban fantasy series that is brimming with potential, this is very much a `getting to know you' book as we are introduced to the world of vampires, covens and their traditions and a woman on the verge of becoming the most powerful Seer there ever was....and a weapon to bring to an end an age old war..... If the prophecy is to be believed! 4.5*s

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampires with a moral compass - excellent! 2 May 2012

Lauren Grimley's "Unforeseen," draws the reader into an unlikely world that coexists with our own. We are given an up-close and personal view of vampires. But is it really all fantasy? Greeting us at the door, Grimley welcomes us into the lives of her characters and shows what it means to be family - the good and the painful - whether you are vampire or human. Like the heroine Alex, we are sucked in to the drama that unfolds (pun intended) and inevitably want to stay. Looking forward to the sequel, Ms. Grimley - write on!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise 26 May 2012

Like everyone else it seems, I have never really been into the vampire craze. Unforeseen was recommended as a fun read that happened to fit my kindle budget so I figured it was worth a shot. I can always tell when I am enjoying a book when I actually carve time out of my day to sit down with it rather than just waiting for downtime that needs to be filled. Lauren Grimley created characters that were entertaining and easy to get attached to. Although at some points, I was eager for the middle "build up sections" to move along a bit, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to future adventures of the cast.

5.0 out of 5 stars sunshine 24 May 2012

One of the things that was "unforeseen" for me was how much I enjoyed this debut novel by Lauen Grimley. In my day, a vampire was just something that occurred in nightmares and I had never jumped on the new vampire craze of the past few years. However, on a recommendation from my daughter, I decided to try this book and was thoroughly hook from the first chapter. The plot was intriguing, mystifying and exciting and I was captivated by the interaction of the vampire family. The writing was of exceptional quality and the descriptions of the characters made them both believable and likable. But, for me, what I appreciated most of this novel was the theme of finding out who you are... what are your gifts and talents and how to embrace the reason for your existence. Who would have thought that a story about vampires, would leave me pondering what is my purpose in life and can I truly embrace and accept myself for my own unique gifts..? I highly recommend this read and look forward to a sequel and future writings of this young and talented author..
