This is more of a novelty book than a reference or anything meaningful. This shoebox sized rectangular hardcover book is printed and bound in Italy and is fairly well made using stiff, high quality paper. The photographs are excellent, the reproductions less so but adequate.
The author has gone about photographing some of the world's more remarkable edifices. The really excellent thing he does is show an aerial view of each site which is displayed on an oversized page that folds out to about twice the size of the book. The photography is really very good as are most of his editorial choices, Castel del monte, Carcassonne and Almodovar del rio being especially impressive (and the shot of the Great Wall, as always).
I question a couple of the choices, the Nazi pill boxes and Alcatraz, for instance, but I think they were included because of visual drama they present. One hesitates to quibble though because the overall effort is really excellent and I can recommend this book for something to buy for the novelty. It doesn't contain any information really, just a paragraph or two of background information on each entry.
Never mind though, the pictures each speak nearly a thousand words for themselves.
