By Angel Delta TOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 10 Oct. 2012
Format: Audio CD
After her unfortunate collaboration with Jack White on last year's "The Party Ain't Over" this is a welcome return to form. The album is produced by Justin Townes Earle who understands what Jack White didn't - keep the band spare, the arrangements simple, don't over produce and let the voice play.

And the voice certainly plays as she rocks, growls and snarls her way through a mix of country and rock n roll songs. At 75 she still has the pipes to threaten her way through "Pushover" an explicitly worded warning to a lying suitor as she tells him she needs to spoil his reputation.
She offers a powerful reading of the Bobby Womack classic "It's All Over Now" with organ, steel guitar and a solid rhythm section making this a standout track.

With lyrics by Woody Guthrie and set to music by Jeff Tweedy "California Stars" is a song of great beauty dwelling upon resting, loving and dreaming beneath the stars with Wanda's voice evoking a sense of deep longing. An ethereal steel guitar soars above while a strong rhythm section seems to echo her heartbeat. Fabulous stuff.

She establishes her country credentials with the honky tonkin' numbers "Down Past The Bottom" and "What Do You Do When You're Lonesome" and a sweet country ballad "Am I Ever A Memory" duetting with Justin Townes Earle. Meanwhile age has not diminished her ability to swing on upbeat numbers like "Old Weakness (Coming On Strong)" and "Tore Down" with her band delivering vintage rock n roll.

After more than 50 years of making music Wanda proves that given a good song, a tight band and a savvy producer she can still make timeless music.

Wanda Jackson remains the queen of Rock n' Roll with her new album 'Unfinished Business'. This is a fun collection of songs with awesome arrangements, and Wanda sounds as great as ever. Its an excellent follow up to her last album "The Party Aint Over". The party certainly aint over on Unfinished Business. These are fun toe-tappin' finger-snappin' upbeat catchy tunes with a retro rock n' roll/rockabilly feel (there are a couple of slower songs which are keepers as well). With 'modern country' having been done to death, its so refreshing to hear a throwback to a time when country music was fun. With only 10 tracks like most old school albums, its a tight little collection of solid music. You're gonna love it!

I remember being in grade school the first time I heard a Wanda Jackson song, and I've been a fan ever since. Now I'm in my 60's and she's still the rockabilly queen. Producer Justin Townes Earle has captured the essence of Wanda's spirit...great songs, nothin' fancy-dan, just straight up, simple, clear and clean rockabilly/country that proves good music and great artists are timeless. My favorite is California Stars. And only $5 for the whole cd? Jump on it while you can...best five bucks I've spent in a long time

Wanda Jackson ROCKED and she still does. Why she was never given the reconition she deserved is a mystery to me. Solid performer and artist with a sound that brings back the early days of "Rock.n' Roll" that just makes me need to sing along with her. How cool is that !!!!
