OK, but very padded,
By Steve X (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unearthing Business Requirements: Elicitation Tools and Techniques (Business Analysis Essential Library) (Paperback)
The book contains plenty of useful information in it, but with major caveats:
(a) this book is very padded out, both by verbosity and by filling the last quarter of the book entirely with example document templates; and (b) that (based on the content of this book), the series of 5 books (of which this is a part), have each been pared down to the thinnest possible content that could justify a book, in order to make a series out of one book's worth of material

Unearthing Business REquirements, a Review,
By J. Sloane "Jimblob" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Unearthing Business Requirements: Elicitation Tools and Techniques (Business Analysis Essential Library) (Paperback)
This is a great 'how to' book. It is full of useful information and templates. Some of the templates I really like are "Project Complexity Model", p. 27; "sample RACI RAM", p. 36 and "Project Characteristics and Product Cycles", p. 66. The authors also include sample Business Requirements Documents and a sample Requirements Management Plan.
The only reason they did not get 5 stars from me was the concept of the BA role seemed confusing, and I think they got the NASA "Vee Model" diagram arrows pointing in the wrong direction, p. 57. This book brings the importance of requirements gathering to us in a straightforward way that is easy to understand and follow. Nice work by the authors. Very very high level,

I've been in business analysis for 3 years and was looking at this book to refresh my skills. I was a little dissappointed given that the sister of this book is on the IIBA list. It reads like a "don't forget to do this" list, but doesn't go into the detail needed. I would read other material.
