Music fans of a certain age will just love this collection of tracks from the vaults of many an ageing Liverpudlian rocker. The sound quality on one or two tracks is not the best but the nostalgia level is high throughout.
From the meaty alternative version of 'Sorrow' through to what sounds like a home-taped version of 'She's Got It' by the late lamented Johnny Guitar via a tour de force of several bands who were the mainstay of sixties Merseybeat in the Capital of Culture.A huge chunk of rock history from the breeding ground of the Beatles. 20 slices of pure raw magic with a few absolute classics along the way.

Another impressive series from the Liverpool Viper label concentrates on the 50s and 60s both before and after the storm.

In fact the first record ever made in Liverpool-via a private pressing-was a cover of Little Richard's She's got it by a future member of Rory Storm & the Hurricanes.

A lot of this stuff was found that way as cupboards and attics were combed-so how long before the Beatles/Hurricanes Akustik record turns up as I'm sure it will as its the only part of the puzzle still missing.

These kind of CDs are meant for collectors-there's no way they represent the artists at their peak when you get Gerry & the Pacemakers from 1960 or the Swinging Blue Jeans in their trad jazz incarnation from the same year.

As the recordings go up to 1968 there's some psychedelia like the 23rd Turnoff or the Apple published Sycamore Syd from the Focal Point.

Essential for collectors of Beatles associated things but a low point for me is Billy Fury's lesser known brother Jason Eddy who cut the worst version ever of Singing the Blues.

If it was possible to use the CD player like a computer I would have deleted this one!
