Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: French ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), English ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Biographies, Black & White, Filmographies, Interactive Menu, Photo Gallery, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Variously titled La Parisienne and Une Parisienne, Parisienne, this Franco-Italian co-production is one of Brigitte Bardot's best vehicles. The daughter of the Premier of France (no, not DeGaulle!), La Bardot is married to Henri Vidal, the premier's chief aide. When Vidal shows signs of straying from his marital vows, Bardot decides to fight fire with fire. She enchants visiting nobleman Charles Boyer, who invites her to a romantic rendezvous on the Riviera. The outraged Vidal tracks down the would-be lovers, only to discover that nothing has happened-both Bardot and Boyer fell victim to head colds, and spent the weekend sneezing rather than smooching. ...Une parisienne ( La Parisienne ) ( Una Parigina )

By Phoust VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
By 1957 Brigitte Bardot was a star, correction Brigette Bardot was an enormous star on a par with Marilyn Monroe in the United States, however her brand of sexuality was different to that of Monroe's. Where Monroe exuded a sexual vulnerability Bardot's was more that of naïve sexual delinquency that pouted its way through her films with a visual appeal similar to that of Simone Simon in the 1930s. "Une Parisiene" may be one Bardot's finest displays of her comic ability as an actor, she is on top form electrifying every scene she is in, which is pretty the entire film. There is never a dull moment in this screwball comedy with plenty of repartee between the couple which makes it a joy to watch. Of note also is another instance of the bikini Bardot wears which did more to popularise the swimming costume in popular culture of the 1950s than anyone else, that is before Ursula Andress appeared in "Dr. No"(1962).

Michel Boisrond direction is competent never losing sight of its objective which of course is Bardot whom he directed many times, yet he has great comic timing which is really another appeal of this film. Boisrond was a fan of Rene Clair (Le Million,1931; A Nous La Liberte,1931), whom he served his apprenticeship with in the late 40s.

A must for Bardot fans.

By The CinemaScope Cat TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
An immature young girl (Brigitte Bardot) marries a philanderer (Henri Vidal, whose character is named Michel Legrand) and when she suspects he's still seeing his ex-mistress (Madeleine Lebeau), she concocts a plot to make him jealous by having an affair with a visiting Prince (Charles Boyer). This rather silly sex farce directed by Michel Boisrond is enlivened by the pert presence of the sexy Bardot at the peak of her nubile beauty. Why anyone married to the vixenish Bardot would even think of cheating with a mistress is beyond understanding but for plot purposes, we (try to) suspend belief. Comedies like this need to be a cinematic souffle but what we end up with is bread and butter. But oh that Brigitte ..... viva Bardot!

The C'est La Vie British import is colorful but alas not wide screen.

Classic Brigitte Bardot 31 May 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Better known to American audiences as La Parisienne (the sanitized English version), Une Parisienne is a charming, delightful romantic comedy. What you will see is classic Brigitte Bardot. Bardot puts forth a great amount of energy in her role which ranks up there with her lively performance in Viva Maria. Bardot at age 23, never looked better or sexier than she does in Une Parisienne.

The color and cinematography in this movie are excellent. This movie doesn't seem to have aged at all. There are a couple of great aerial shots. The widescreen format doesn't reduce the size of the images hardly at all.

This is my favorite Bardot movie - more enjoyable than the more famous and popular And God Created Woman.

Those who have never seen this movie have an opportunity now. Purchase it or rent it if you can and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Bardot, a dynamic fun-loving woman and Boyer, an old-style romantic without the grand manner... 16 Jan 2007
By Roberto Frangie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
Vadim changed Brigitte's image and way of life from that of the young society beauty he had married to that of a rebellious and challenging teenager of the 1950s...

"Une Parisienne" succeeded in launching her ravishing figure as the teenage goddess, the casual sexuality, the provocative gaiety in confrontation with men...

Charles Boyer -- as Prince Charles -- was the perfect, ideal choice of those magically romantic moments... His deep and vibrant voice spoke a promise of new adventures in love... His deep, wondering eyes bespoke a worldly knowledge untarnished by cynicism... He had the boudoir grace of Valentino without the hysteria or the sometime effeminacy of the great lover... Under Michel Boisrond's direction, Boyer was an old-style romantic without the grand manner...
