UNDERWORLD reimagines Vampires as a secretive clan of modern, aristocratic sophisticates whose mortal enemies are the Lycans (werewolves), a shrewd gang of street thugs who prowl the city’s underbelly. The balance of power is upset when a beautiful young Vampire and a nascent Lycan – deadly rivals for centuries – fall in love. Len Wiseman directs Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman in a fast-paced, modern-day tale of deadly action, ruthless intrigue and forbidden love, all set against the backdrop of an ancient feud between the two tribes in a timeless, Gothic metropolis. UNDERWORLD is a new species of thriller.

Kate Beckinsale (The Aviator, Van Helsing) and Scott Speedman (The 24th Day, My Life Without Me) reprise their roles in this exhilarating sequel, which sends the Underworld legend to the next terrifying stage, unleashing, new action, new secrets and an entirely new breed that is more powerful than any of them.

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans delves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.

Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all out war to eradicate both immortal species.

What a bargain, so much cheaper than buying the titles individually. Entertaining set of films, even if third in series is a bit weak. Real brain in neutral nonsense, but good way to kill an evening. Varied selection of extras thrown in on each disc and fourth instalment included a 3D version, fine if you like that kind of thing but nothing to write home about.

I have all the DVD's except for the last one in the series and both the sound and clarity of the picture on the Blu rays far exceed that of the DVD's. Well worth getting

Another side to the vampire genre. Though set in modern times it is Gothic horror at its best. Kate Beckinsale oozes menace and sensuality with aplomb. It is not all about blood and gore, the plot is intriguing. Four seasons of this masterpiece is not enough for me.

In particular the 3D version of Awakening is very good. The 3D is so well done that after a while you forget that it's there. However 3D is not the best aspect of this film. It was very good in 2D too. I watched the set in chronological canon order, i.e. I watched Underworld second, and I think that's the best way to watch it, particularly as Selene is a hard act to follow. If there is any role that Kate Beckinsale was born to play this is it and I hope that she reprises the role again (and preferably again). Unlike many sequels Awakening is IMO the best of the 4 films, so it's only getting better and I think it would be a shame to stop now.

Great package, with great movies. Good quality of print and sound.
Only BAD thing is the Awakenings part... it is in 3D??
I have never seen a 3D done so bad.... it's almost like nothing is actually in 3D...

I actually thought my player was broken, but after putting in Immortals.... i immidiately saw the way 3D should be.

Dont buy the 3D separately, because it would be a waste of money. The film in 2D was brilliant as the movie is great.

The product analyses says 4 discs. Nope. The 1st Underworld is the 2 disc extended. And the 4th (Awakening) Is 2 discs. So its 8 discs. But im not moaning. It's a fantastic collection. I reccommend to all who love a good action with a twist.

This is a fantastic reinterpretation of the vampire folk lore that keeps close to the earlier traditions yet is still convincingly set in modern times. The vampires in these films are REAL vampires and I would urge any Twilight fan to purchase this box set so that they can gain an appreciation of what proper vampires are. They are not nice and they most certainly do not glitter. Of course, some of the Underworld films are better than others. The prequel is perhaps my least favourite but I still value it as ties up a lot of loose ends and completes the story.

If you like vampires and Lycans these films are for you. It takes you back to the beginning of the war between the two and right up to present day. The films are full of action and Kate Beckinsale is fantastic.
