This is a well written and beautifully presented book. It covers so many issues about coping with a crying baby and is very supportive in it's approach. This book is clear, concise and easy to read. You can read it straight through or just look at the section that interests you. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Research-based book about causes and solution for crying, 4 Dec 2010

This review is from: Understanding Your Crying Baby: Why Babies Cry, How Parents Feel and What You Can do About it (Paperback)
I got this book out of the library and am now a total Sheila Kitzinger fan. The book is based on research carried out by the author via questionnaires in a British and an Australian parenting magazine. She found out that the babies who cry most, like more than 6 hours a day, also experienced a very stressful pregnancy,a traumatic birth with lots of interventions and drugs and a patronising , autocratic hospital environment. Also interesting the fact that babies cry most at the 3rd week and in the 3rd month after birth and that some drugs take about a month to clear out of the babies system which leads to some babies changing behaviour dramatically afterwards.
In total there is so much about crying explained I have never thought of before so I would highly recommend this book. It talks about different mothering styles, the history of parenting and advice books and also gives lots of example stories and good ideas how to ease the (stress of) crying.

5.0 out of 5 stars this book made a difference, 14 Feb 2006

This book really helped to give me back some confidence in what I consider to be my natural instincts, and the experiences of new parents quoted in the book helped me to realise that we were not the only ones with these problems.
I think it is a great book with really good sensible advice.
