This lovely book is written with great humanity and a love of the lurcher. Unlike many 'how to' dog books the author never talks down to the reader, or embarks on a 'then I did this, then I did that' ego boost.
The star of the book is most definitely the lurcher, and we are guided through the dog's life from choosing a 'type' of lurcher to the very moving chapter The Declining Years.
The book was written when many more types of hunting were still legal. Even if you are not in favour of hunting, and wouldn't do it intentionally, your lurcher may still dive into a hedge and appear with a rabbit. Better to be fore-armed, so make sure you have read the section on persuading your dog to hand it over gracefully :)
As the title suggests, you will learn to understand so much more about your canine companion.
