Mind Maps are very powerful tools, which help you to organise information better by mapping key concepts and their relationships. Unfortunately this book does the technique a grave disservice. Full of padding, repetition, and pseudo science mumbo jumbo, the worthwhile parts of the book would fit on a couple of pages, or one mind map! The claim that readers will understand mind maps in a week I assume is two hours to read the book and the rest of the week to look for a better book! A better alternative is the single chapter 7 of Tony Buzan's "Use Your Head". In addition to this chapter there is plenty of well written concise information in the rest of the book. I got my copy of Understanding Mind Maps in a Week this morning and I have binned it this evening.

The best quick introduction to a very useful tool (mind mapping). I have used the book with students (school and university) who have found the technique helpful and effective in their studies: It has increased both comprehension and retention, stimulated "intelligent" questions, and improved organisational skills and writing. This book cuts a lot of the slack found in other introductions and, if followed day-by-day, will quickly change your approach to learning/ understanding! I was impressed.

Mind Map Basics 21 Nov 2011

The book was very easy to follow. It is very basic which is what I wanted. I struggled with the thought of adding drawings to my maps. The book provides a few visual examples of simple shapes, symbols and stick figures (The Monday Session). That in itself made the book worthy of being a permanent part of my library. The thought of adding cartoons/pictures to the maps made me reluctant to use the technique. I reviewed the drawing concepts explained in the book and practiced the drawing tips for a few days and I no longer hesitate to use the mapping technique. Adding drawing-pictures to my maps is no longer a big issue/deal. Also, the book's illustrations and cartoons were very helpful in assisting me to recall much of the info it contains. This mapping process is forcing me to think more creative and that is good. This book is for people wanting to know and understand the basics of the mind mapping technique and how to get started. It does a good job of providing such information in a very straight forward and simple manner. I am thinking that a more pricey book would have to repeat the majority of the stuff it contains and would only enhance your mapping experience by probably providing more map illustrations. You cannot beat the price of this book for the info it conveys.
