5.0 out of 5 stars The best introduction to technical gliding., 18 May 2002
By A Customer
The original, and still the best book about how gliders work. Simple text and clear diagrams help to show the reader why every aspect of the glider works the way it does. It helped me to understand why gliders are designed the way they are. I found that my flying improved when i fully understood the effects that the controls were having on the glider. It also gave me confidence in the speed and G limits of a glider. The book explains why breaking the limits is dangerous but also why it safe to go up to them and use the glider to its full potential. There are other good books on the subject, but this is the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, comprehensive and enlighting, 7 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This book covers many subjects of gliding theory. The basics are covered comprehensively, with full answers to common puzzles: what happens when a glider turns in the wind? I enjoyed most the insights into glider design - the limitaions of different designs in terms of safety, performance and other characteristics. You don't need a master's degree in aerodynamics to understand why most modern gliders sport a T tail and what its limitation are.

5.0 out of 5 stars A piece of art on every detail, 3 Jun 2005

Explains a lot of those things which I did not notice or not exactly understood. Quite a thick handbook makes flying more predictible, smart and safe. Good choice for every pilot.
