A very useful book 20 Nov 2006
Format:Paperback
A must-read book for everyone who has not yet given considered thought to the competitive auction. It covers the Law of the Total Number of Tricks (known variously as TNT or LTT), protective bidding, all kinds of doubles, and many other topics of competitive bidding. Unfortunately, this book is slightly spoilt by silly misprints.

Format:Paperback
Covers the main principles of competitive bidding well and concisely in an inexpensive format. A good description of underlying factors such as the Law of Total Tricks and the Offence-Defence Ratio, and many good illustrative examples. But some key points are poorly covered, e.g. how opener should rebid in a competitive rather than unopposed bidding situation; this is an omission in many books though Mendelson's Control the Bidding: The Right Way to Secure the Battleground in Bridge does better than most. In several cases the N/S/E/W hands are differently orientated compared to the text.

Worth considering 28 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
Covers lots of examples of how to be aggresive raising partner's suit preemptively, section on law of total tricks good and well explained, also covers option for two suited hands and quite a lot more
