Product Description

Review

Understanding Child Development is refreshingly clear, readable and user friendly. With explanations of the key theories and research in all areas of child development this is the ideal source for students at NVQ Level 3 and 4, and on degree programmes. The book covers the main theoretical approaches and the key concepts that have shaped good practice, as well as providing underpinning knowledge. (Early Years )

I found this book useful and it adds practical meaning to those theories we might be familiar with but may not recognise where they fit into practice.

Product Description

Understanding Child Development 2nd Edition is the new edition of the bestselling, user-friendly book for those studying for Early Years Foundation Degrees, Early Childhood Studies Degrees, and S/NVQ Levels 3 and 4 in Childcare Learning and Development. Jennie Lindon explains all the key approaches to studying child development in a straightforward way that helps students understand the links between theories and their learning and practice.

Throughout the book:

- Key terms are explained in language that students can understand
- 'Making the connection' features link what is being learned to settings and practice
- There is guidance on observations and students own research, to apply what has been learned.

Anyone pursuing Early Years Professional Status will find this an invaluable resource, whilst experienced practitioners in the whole range of early years settings will find it supports continuing professional development.

As the title suggests, this does link theory to practice and when studying for a degree thats what I need. Most, if not all, child theorists are mentioned in this book, (and have an Index of their own) so great to get differing views when looking for quotes. This book makes complicated subjects like development and psychology understandable by not bombarding you with 'heavy reading.' Great examples of practice, great links to theorists and great explainations. I refer to this book time and again when writing my assignments as I find what I'm looking for (or at least a start) easily.
Studying? Buy it for your bookshelf as you'll use it often, it is not a 'dust gatherer.' And that's what us students want as we can't afford to waste money.
