It's true, Falconer is a better writer than McNab and Ryan but they are in the same league. This book is a standard fare, action by numbers but still satisfying. The concept is absurd and you need to suspend your disbelief around Chapter 3 but if you can do that what follows is a predictable but enjoyable book, intelligently set out with a rushed ending.

Don't get me wrong, I like the character but he has the depth of a puddle. He has no faults and that makes him unbelievable. Similarly the main characters fall into black or white categories which only works in Hollywood. A unbelievable plot with unbelievable characters just leaves you feeling the whole thing is superficial. Then again, I don't think Falconer is aiming for anything more than that and I am not pretentious enough to mark him down for it. Good holiday reading.

Having read this author's previous work, I was quite looking forward to this novel - sadly, whilst it was readable, it failed to grip me and I felt its ending was somewhat rushed.

Normally a far more eloquent and mature fiction author than the likes of McNab and Ryan, Mr Falconer has, on this occasion failed to live up to his previously high standards.

Hopefully, a return to form this year...

Fantastic 7 Feb 2008
Format:Hardcover
I fully agree with Josho, this book had me gripped from cover to cover and the only disappointment I ever get from DF books is when I finish the last page. Yet again another great read from Mr Falconer, thoroughly recommended.
