Just got my new kindle so thought I'd download a free short story to see how it goes. I agree with some of the other reviews yes it was slightly disturbing, but I did enjoy it & read it in one sitting. I felt the pain of the characters as I was reading it & was totally engrossed. For a freebie I thought it was a good download & would read another book by this author.

I was disturbed by this story, even angered and frustrated by it. I went from pitying to hating one character; and the one I had disliked the most for his cowardice, I ended up feeling the most sympathy and regret for him. And I didn't see that twisted ending coming. Enjoying the dark feeling of this story, I did like how it provoked and disturbed me, so I didn't even mind that punch to the gut ending, although I do think more should have been presented to the reader about Stephanie's motivation. I wanted her to confess more than she did, but I guess we have to take her explanation at face value. I felt dismay and sadness at how Dean had destroyed himself because of a sick joke. For me, this left a bitter taste, seeing Dean scarred inside and out. Not an easy, feel-good read, this story explores those dark, ugly places in human character that cause us to hurt someone just because it may be cruel fun.

Really enjoyed reading this today. A good story and the ending did surprise me. Will definitely get more of this authors work.
