Product Description

CD Description

Bud Flanagan (real name Robert Winthrop) and Chesney Allen first linked in the Crazy Gang, but were to find everlasting fame when they paired up as a duo. Their initial success came via the music hall, and whilst they were no mean comics, it is their ability to come up with immediately catchy songs that ensured their place in folklore. Songs such as 'Underneath The Arches', 'Umbrella Man' and 'Home Town' are as much a part of variety performances today as they were then. Flanagan and Allen were also able to transfer their popularity over to films, including Underneath The Arches, Alf s Button Afloat and We ll Smile Again. This album features the twenty songs most associated with the legendary music hall act.

By C. FULLER TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This CD contains the same tracks as on ASV Living Era release of 1996 We'll Smile Again but is offered at a lower price. The running time for this CD is approx 70 mins.

The popularity of Flanagan and Allen continues and in spite of these recordings having been available elsewhere many times there still appears to be a market for them. I suspect that with the demise of both Sanctuary and before that Prism this is aimed at filling the gap. Like wise the Arthur Askey CD (The Best Of Arthur Askey - The Bee Song, Xtra 26600) which provides another chance to hear his gentle humour is also offered at an attractive budget price. It was interesting to hear on BBC7 a 1981 Variety Show with Arthur at the helm and including his old pal Richard Murdoch and American vocalist Vic Damone. Sometimes you forget the gems that the BBC used to broadcast and it is equally surprising to hear them again today. This CD of Flanagan & Allen is nostalgic and gentle and a world away from today...enjoy these songs once more.
