It's a full thirty years since the childhood-defining movie went into hyperspace (you may count the years if you wish, but I wouldn't recommend it) and, let me tell you, we're still amazed by the ingenuity and quality of the industry that's grown up alongside it. I was never big on Star Wars plush toys: though being a fan all my life, I considered the action figures and models as the proper way of replicating and collecting the characters. Still, when I saw this product, I thought that actually some few characters of the saga deserve a cuddly plush version and Chewie is the firstmost of them (perhaps also the Ewoks could do).
The picture doens't do the doll justice (the one I received, at least) is actually more similar to the true image of the charcter than the super-fluffy poodle-looking doll in the picture: the fur tends to sag a little more, or you can push it down or pose it a little, and overall looks much more faithful to the real Chewbecca. The doll is nice, soft long fur, the little stubby legs and fett let him stand on his own, with a little effort. I'm not completely convinced by the fur around his mouth, which looks a little like a moustache rather, and sticks out too much. He wears his satchel and belt: very proper and true to the image of the character.
The mechanism inside, to make him growl has a button which is not really easy to push: sometimes you have to try two or three times before you find the button, but I'd rather have it this way than with an excessively sentive button.
The growl is fun. I don't quite remember Chewie growling like this in any scene of the film, but it is in any case a very convincing Chewie growl. It's a little funny because it gives out 4-5 growls progressively lower in tone and shorter, and the last comes a little unexpected.
Overall a close likeness to the charcater and convincing sound. excellent price-qality ratio.
