4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Introduction With Some Great Photos, 7 Jun 2008
By Corey S. Hatch - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Underground Military Command Bunkers of Zossen, Germany: Construction, History and Use by the Wehrmacht and Soviet Army 1937-1994 (Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
This is an english language translation by Don Cox of Kampe's "Streng geheim! Die Bunkeranlagen von Zossen 1937-1994." This volume comprises photos with some accompanying descriptive text mostly regarding the Zeppelin communications bunker, and to a lesser extent the Maybach I and II bunkers and follow-up Soviet era.

Kampe's expertise is centered in German communications of WWII, and thus the Zeppelin bunker complex predominates. But he also covers the pre-history and construction of the bunkers, offers some good exterior views of Maybach, and briefly addresses the end of the Nazi era and subsequent re-utilization of some of the facilities by the Soviets. Approximately eighty-four black and white photographs and thirteen drawings, illustrations, and maps are included here.

A bigger book with substantially more text and even more photos would have been nice, and could have warranted five stars, but because there is so little material available on the subject, this title gets an easy four stars. I also own Gerhard Kaiser's "Sperrgebiet," which is a really great book, but it lacks a bit in the number of photos of the underground facilities. This book is superior in that regard.

This is a nice introduction on the topic, and sports some great photos.
