Product Description

Selena Taylor is an American citizen determined to find her grandparents after she loses her family to the violence of the drug cartel in Mexico. Crossing the border into Texas turns out to be the easy part.

Virtually penniless and enticingly innocent, she soon finds herself at the mercy of Travis Blake. Travis is a hard-working, self-made rancher that has never known love or softness of any kind. His only use for women is sexual, and Selena is caught on his ranch with no way out.

While Selena plots her escape from his control, Travis ruthlessly and methodically tightens his possession and makes it impossible for her to leave.

The struggle that follows is a clash of wills that pits purity against passion, virtue against vice and love against lust.

Excerpt:

“I specifically told you to stay away from the men and stay at the house. In fact, I’ve told you more than once.” He ate, standing up, and scrunched up the bag when he was finished. “You got anything to say to me? Anything in your defense?”
“Am I on tri—trial?”
“Yeah, you’re on trial. And I’m the only judge you’re going to get. No jury of your peers. Just me. My decision. Got that?” His voice rose.
Selena took a step back from him. “What’s wrong w-with you? How can you b-be so nice and then s-so mean?”
He stalked toward her. “Really?” He reached down and swiped her wrist and held it tightly in his grip. “Really? You don’t get it yet? You haven’t quite figured it out? I told you what happens when a man wants something he can’t have. Have you forgotten so soon? Are you saying I can have it? Are you? I tell you what, Angel, you let me take you back to the house, strip you naked every night. You sleep in my bed, and we’ll see just how nice I can be.” He slammed his mouth down on hers. His tongue went deep, tasting her sweetness. He pulled her into his body, his erection straining against her. He lifted his mouth from hers. His hand went to the back of her head and grabbed hold of her hair and pulled until her eyes were on his.
His face was menacing, his hold on her uncompromising. He fisted his hand in her hair until she was completely captive. His other hand went to her neck and felt her racing heartbeat. His hand roamed down and settled on her breast. Her flesh swelled against his palm, her nipple hardening. His thumb moved back and forth across the tight little pebble.
They stood there, panting together. His touch gentled, and his words became beguiling. “Come on, Baby. You don’t want to be a virgin forever, do you?” His mouth lowered and he took a gentle kiss from her parted lips. “I can make it good for you. You don’t need to be scared. I won’t hurt you. It won’t hurt at all.”
She pulled away from him, accusation in her eyes.
He stood in front of her, blatant masculinity dripping from his pores. He had a dominant nature, and she felt its intensity now.
His eyes were riveted on her, his nostrils flaring. Goddammit! He had sworn to himself that he wasn’t going to try to seduce her, and then he had gone and done just that. “Shit.” He turned away and dug his cell phone from his pocket, flipped it open and pressed a button. He spoke into the phone. “Yeah, get back here and take her back to the house.”
He ended the call and slipped the phone back into his pocket. “I’m not going to apologize. You’re playing with fire and you know it. You better watch out, little girl, because you’re going to get burned. I want you to get back to that house and stay there. You can go to the barn and see those damn skunks, but that’s it. Nowhere else. You stay away from the men.” He grabbed her chin in his hand and lifted. “And when you get back to the house, you better make me something real sweet for dessert, because I want something for all the goddamn trouble you’re causing me.”

This is the last book of this author's backlog that I've found, and I can't believe that there's no more in the works. She does not appear to have a website and there's no 'upcoming' info that I can find, so I am bummed, as her stuff is AMAZING.

Her books might not suit everyone, as her males are arrogant, dominant, sometimes un-PC, as men were allowed to be in 80's/early 90's romances, but her tales work.

This one has quite a simple tale: Selena's entire family has been killed in the Mexican drug wars, and her parents had hidden her for years to ensure that she wasn't in danger, so she's an innocent virgin, totally un-worldly and unsophisticated. She decides to claim her US citizenship and crosses the border, but ends up assaulted and injured, and is found by a ranch-hand, who thinks she's a young male illegal immigrant, and who takes her to the bunkhouse.

At the ranch, the owner, Travis quickly susses that she is female (after a brief moment of panic when he thinks he's attracted to a male!) and keeps her in seclusion in the main house whilst she heals. He is very conflicted as he wants her, but she barely speaks English and wants to find her estranged grandparents, her only family, and she refuses to accept anything that she hasn't earned.

He wants her, and she is initially scared and wary, but starting to fall for him, but her innocence protects her, as deep down, Travis is an honorable guy, so he proposes, and then believes that he has trapped her into marriage selfishly.

They get their HEA, and it was great to see their lives 4/5 years down the line, but what made this so great? Well, though Selena was overwhelmed by the passion Travis had for her, and by his lovemaking, she stayed true to her Catholic roots, but without being a tease, which only made Travis value her and want her more. When he did propose, mainly because he couldn't go on any longer without sleeping with her, which she would only consider as part of being married, he didn't realise that he was already half in love with her, but she already loved him by then, and wise beyond her years, she clocked that it was more for him than just being permitted to have sex with her. I loved that we got to see both their feelings - him feeling conflicted that she'd not experienced life, and that he'd made her his wife without allowing her to decide freely what she wanted, and she knowing why he was marrying her, but wanting to stay true to the values with which she'd been brought up.

Overall, this is a great tale, and I just wish that the author had more in the works, as she is now a firm fave with 5* reviews for all of her works.

Travis Blake owns his own ranch bought with the proceeds from his time on the rodeo circuit as a bull-riding world champion. While working on a tractor engine one of his men comes to tell him that a Mexican boy has been found injured. Travis walks into the bunkhouse to see the boy and almost immediately realises that this is no boy but a girl, he takes her to the big house. He is none too happy this could cause problems amongst his men, the ranch is pretty isolated and there are no women for at least ten miles. Selena had been attacked on the road by a couple of men who wanted to involve her in drug running fortunately a state troopers appearance had saved her. She had been forced to leave Mexico as her whole family had been killed by a drug cartel. With little money and no other family there she crossed the border into the states as she had American citizenship via her American Father, her aim was to locate his parents her grandparents. But, now she is on this mans ranch and he is preparing to examine her she is terrified, no man has ever touched her not even a kiss. Travis is enthralled with the young women in front of him, and feels very protective she is so small beautiful and delicate. He manages to persuade her to accept his help. Travis tells her she must stay till she is better. Selena's stay lenghtens into more than a few days she starts to cook Travis meals, and clean his house. The tension between them is electric, but she has no experience of men and Travis is domineering and bossy, and he makes it clear that he wants her.
At first I was not too sure about this story as Travis seemed a bit out of control with his actions towards Selena, he finds it hard to be near her without touching her. He keeps her or tries to keep her away from the other men telling her they might come on to her or worse, but they all treat her with respect, Travis is the only one who is interested in her sexually. But is he really in control of the situation the further you get into the story it becomes apparent that the power is all Selenas.
