Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With popcorn acoustic guitars, trampoline fiddles, bumper-car bass lines, and caramel-coated sax, the Dave Matthews Band's major-label debut is like an evening at the fair. "The Best of What's Around" and "What Would You Say" swirl like the amusement-park ride on the album's cover, sweeping the exhilarated and light-headed listener higher as the ride spins faster. "Satellite" glides breezily like the prettiest horse on the carousel, "Ants Marching" runs around hitting the bell with the sledgehammer and winning the largest stuffed animals at the target-range booths, and "Lover Lay Down" is the quietest moment on the disc--like the sun setting on a baby's sleeping, snow-cone-stained face collapsed on her daddy's shoulder. --Beth Massa

5.0 out of 5 stars Your arse in a sling, 13 Oct 2001
By
Wicker-king (North London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Under the Table and Dreaming (Audio CD)
The first album by DMB and its an absolute chestnut. Each track is unique and couples Dave Matthews poetic brilliance with the musical talents of the band and, unlike a good deal of DMB's work since Dave allows Leroi Moore sensational sax and Boyd Tinsley's fiddle to take songs like "Dancing Nancies", "Jimi Thing" and the classic "Ants Marching" to another level and singles DMB out as one of the few innovative bands of the nineties. So if you're sick to death of the mind-numbingly drab and fomulaic stuff that gets played to death on the radio, this album is a must and if you're not sick of the same old thing, get this album anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply THE BEST album of all time, 9 Jun 2002
This review is from: Under the Table and Dreaming (Audio CD)
I am a big Dave Matthews Band fan, having seen him twice in concert, once in Sheperds Bush, London England, the other in BC Place Stadium in Canada. Two very different locations, but the same great Band. Under The Table And Dreaming was the first album I heard, many years ago whilst living in America. I was hooked ever since. This one simply is the classic and the best. The mixture of rock, pop intertwined with sax and flute playing is superb, and Dave's vocal's just mind blowing. The lyrics are touching, and the emotion behind the singing great. For anyone who's only heard the single The Space Between and wants to hear more Dave Matthews, this is the album to buy to introduce you to the king of music. Fav songs on the album are Typical Situation and Satellite. Rock on DMB!
